In response to episode 119 "A Bloody City," Ann provides a rebuttal to Dan's assertion that New Orleans is one of the most violent cities in the US. Despite making the list of top 10 deadliest cities per-capita (at the time of recording), Ann believes it's not a "New Orleans thing." Not so coincidentally Baton Rouge, Louisiana also made the top 10 list. Maybe Ann's right? It's a not a New Orleans thing, it's a Louisiana thing.

If you Google "how to get out of jury duty" you'll find numerous myths like dressing a certain way, saying that you're a racist or able to tell if someone is guilty just by looking at them. None of these things are surefire ways to get out of jury duty. In our state (as well as many others), there are only a handful of legit reasons that you're almost guaranteed an excusal.

This week Ann, Becky, and Dan talk about Jim Crow laws that are still on the books. Racial restrictive housing covenants prevented Black people from purchasing homes or living in "non-Black" neighborhoods. Although these covenants aren't enforceable, they can still be found in some deeds in 2020. It's said to be cost-prohibitive to eradicate these covenants, essentially leaving them in place. We discuss how these covenants destroyed our communities and how our historically segregated neighborhoods (read BLACK) are now being decimated by gentrification.
