Ann, Becky, and Dan discuss a new California law that was supposed to hold police that shoot unarmed people accountable for their actions. This law got the support of Black Lives Matter... that is until most of the law was stripped down and purposely left vague. Black Lives Matter then pulled their support for this law but like most retractions, they don't get as much publicity as the initial story. There are however some people who still support the current law because it's a "step in the right direction."

We've recently learned that the state of Maryland, as well as numerous other states, does not have a formal vehicle to compensate people who were wrongfully convicted. We talk about one case in particular where teenagers were convicted for a crime they didn't commit and spent 30+ years in prison before being exonerated.

This week Becky and Dan talk about the violence they’re surrounded by in the city of New Orleans. Outside of the surrounding areas, not many people know just how violent the city is. The murder rate doesn’t paint a full picture, you also have to consider the number of shootings and violent crimes where people don't die. We take a look at the first week in December 2019 alone where there were 20+ people shot. These are just our experiences and opinions after living here for well over a decade.

One of the things she recommends is to avoid majoring in pre-law and instead major in English or math and then attend law school. There's not much you can do with a pre-law degree if you decide you don't want to (or can't) become an attorney.

This week Ann, Becky, and Dan discuss being a landlord. We often talk about leasing from the perspective of a tenant but this week we take a look at leasing your property as a landlord. Ann shares some things that you should place into your lease (if your state allows) to offer you as much protection as possible for the property owner. We look at things like acceptable noise levels, number of occupants, subleasing, maintenance, property inspections, and in Dan's case wanting to disallow his tenants from having parties/gatherings. We also discuss the eviction process and how to place numerous items in your lease that it committed would immediately breach the lease and offer you a way to evict your tenants. We also learn that after eating edibles, Becky's is really REALLY bad at math!
