  • She Needs Pirate Action (Dead Man’s Chest Minute 30)
Rain on your wedding day is nothing compared to disrupting a soon-to-be bride’s wedding night. Get this woman some pirate action, immediately! Join us for minute 30 of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as we discuss the mother of all bombs – tragic love, one-sided love, and misdirection. In this episode we tackle Cutler Beckett’s response to Elizabeth Swann after she say’s he disrupted her wedding night (a marriage interrupted or fate intervenes), take another look at the lighting’s use of warm and cool colors to demonstrate the upper hand, examine the use of sound, and hypothesize about a better movie that eliminates a Captain Jack Sparrow and Lord Cutler Beckett coincidence in favor of a more favorable plot structure.

  • Stay Out of My Box (Dead Man’s Chest Minute 29)
You know you’ve overstepped your bounds when you go digging around Lord Cutler Beckett’s box. Let the euphemisms fly as we discuss minute 29 of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Join us for the latest episode as we discuss Beckett’s growing frustration with everyone wrongly assuming what he desires, the meaning of “currency is the currency of the realm” and the growing trend of replacing old school loyalty (a loyal servant of the British crown), Elizabeth Swann as the main pirate in the movie and perhaps the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, ask the question if Elizabeth should have shot Beckett, celebrate the incredible use of lighting to demonstrate who has the upper hand, highlight our favorite lines from the week in our recurring segment Really Bad Eggs, and remind everyone that on Monday we switch our schedule to 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) to eliminate the hiatus between seasons and keep the show going all year long.

  • Heaving Parallels (Dead Man’s Chest Minute 27)
We can’t keep our eyes off those heaving parallels and ample misdirections as we tackle minute 27 of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Join us for this episode where Heather can’t avoid mentioning the supple euphemisms and we explore the connections between Will Turner’s actions on Pelegosto Island and Elizabeth Swann’s concerns while in the Fort Charles jail on Port Royal, Governor Swann breaking Elizabeth out of jail and his ultimate reasons for doing so, the theme of lost trust, the symbolism and magnitude of the Fort Charles jail, and the use of misdirection throughout the entire minute that sets up minor gags to character development to plot points.

  • Don’t Eyeball My Compass (Dead Man’s Chest Minute 26)
It’s never polite to point out the eunuch or stare at a man’s compass, but hey, this is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Join us for the latest episode where we discuss Captain Jack Sparrow’s fascination with eunuchs, a bit of eunuch history, we revisit the Lord Cutler Beckett castration conspiracy theory, wonder if Jack’s reaction to Will Turner is about the compass or Elizabeth Swann facing the gallows, the fact that Jack cannot escape without help, the two scary cannibals as the stuff of nightmares, Jack’s belt, and the Pelegostos’ language – a unique language developed by Carla Meyer and Professor Peter Ladefogend.

Everyone wants to enjoy a succulent Chinese meal with the personification of evil and cannibals wearing shoes. It’s business as usual on the Caribbean island of Pelegosto on minute 25 of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Join us for this episode where we discuss Will Turner stealing the scene from a painted Chief Jack Sparrow, compare the similarities between the structure and formula of Dead Man’s Chest and Curse of the Black Pearl, explore Jack Sparrow’s multiple introductions and the notion that Jack as Chief is a better character introduction than his coffin escape from the Turkish prison, the movie’s ability to inspire a scene in Thor Ragnarok, the origin of Jack Sparrow’s line “and then they made me their chief” from Curse of the Black Pearl, the intricate details of the Pelegostos’ village, history of the real Carib (Kalinago) indigenous people, the Christopher Columbus origin of Dominica, a shoe-based movie mistake, Pirate Word of the Week, and we announce a schedule change in which the show will be 3 days per week to eliminate a hiatus between seasons.

  • A-weema-weh, A-weema-weh (Dead Man’s Chest Minute 24)
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, Will Turner sleeps tonight; in the jungle, the quiet jungle the cannibals will eat tonight. Today we discuss Will Turner narrowly avoiding becoming a movie cliché, Pelegosto Island, the cannibal Pelegostos, the true cannibal history surrounding Kalinago Nation (the caribs) and English and French settlers, the Settlers 101 Handbook on How to Conquer Native Peoples, Disney Pictures accused of racism by the National Garifuna Council, the reality of poison darts in the Caribbean and the use of the toxic manchineel tree or sandbox tree, actors portraying the cannibal Pelegostos, cinematography on Dominica, our favorite lines of the week in our Really Bad Eggs segment, and a host of movie references and many missed euphemisms.
