Black Sun Dispatches

Welcome back to the city beneath the black sun. Found in a dark world, surrounded by an endless desert filled with countless threats, a man has forged a kingdom out of madness, and will do anything to keep it standing. But madness has a way of taking back its own, especially in a strange and hostile land where terror and wonder wait behind every corner.

Not all the evil that prowls the city beneath the black sun began there. Long have there been legends of spirits that move, as silent and unseen as the wind across your face, spirits that twist and deform those they inhabit into something other than human. They are known for their eyes, for their red, red eyes.

Isaac knows these legends all too well. He has been running from them all his life.

Only now will he learn…that the legends have followed him all the way to another world.

Not every good deed gets rewarded. If you're Terry, and you've just risked your life to save the entire city from a giant rampaging monster, your "Thank You" is watching your best friend die, your world falling apart, and being locked in a cage and forced to fight more monsters for the entertainment of a braying crowd.

But just when Terry is ready to embrace a rest, in whatever tragic form it takes, he comes face to face with a new threat, a being that forces him to reevaluate everything he thought, knew, or accepted.

There is something on the balcony, going back and forth and back and forth. And back and forth again.

This episode is dedicated to my uncle, who passed away last week. Chuck, I love you and I miss you.

Even in the city beneath the black sun, they make time for the Fourth of July. And the man McRae wants to make sure that everyone has an especially great time this year, for there are such dark times behind them and so very many dangers still to come.

But how to dazzle, how to amaze, how to inspire? By writing in the sky with fire of course. The job of finding such entertainments fall to a two-bit crook on a desperate end run for freedom, but what he finds will change his world forever.

Season 2 gets under way with our first long look at the man McRae, who sits atop a not-quite ivory tower overlooking the lost city beneath the black sun. McRae has achieved everything he has ever wanted in life: Power, acclaim, and, now, his long-lost daughter Cassandra (albeit not of her own volition).

But even though his victory is newly won, it is already fragile. The city's position in this strange world has never felt more tenuous, and even a man of seemingly limitless power and resources might need some help.

The winter has stretched on for so long that it can be hard to fathom the spring as anything more than a bitter dream.

Yet for all that, the city beneath the black sun is nearly there. One final storm gathers on the horizon, one final bombard of ice and snow and freezing wind, one final exhale of frigid might. And on the other side, spring.

But not everyone will live to see it.
