The national presidential election is rapidly approaching, and Tribe we have been talking so much amongst ourselves about the opportunity that is on the horizon to change history. Every four years you hear, "this is the most important election of your life", and that is more true than ever at this point in time. In this 3-part series, we will delve into the issues and topics related to black women and voting on a broader scale. We know it is important to vote, but what is the bigger picture? This series is the start of us unpacking that. 

In this first part of the series we are joined by D'Shawna Bernard, Director of Political Partners at Hustle. D'Shawna has successfully carved out a space for herself in politics as a Caribbean-American woman who knew from childhood this was the world she wanted to be part of. After graduating from American University, she has been thoughtful about all of her work experience, which truly reflects her passion for public service. After working directly with Senator Elizabeth Warren as her Director for Black Outreach on her Presidential Campaign, D'Shawna's commitment of making politics work for minorities has grew tremendously and so has her hope for a better future.

155 years since becoming free-ish!

Juneteenth aka Freedom Day is the celebration of the last slaves being set free. June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved Blacks in Galveston, Texas were told of the Emancipation Proclamation was issues two years prior, all slaves were not freed. Juneteenth reminds us that no one is free until everyone is free!
