Blackstone the Magic Detective OTR

The format of the show was quite engaging. Each episode typically began with Blackstone and his assistant, Rhoda, often joined by John, encountering a mystery or being challenged by a situation that required a clever solution. Blackstone would then use his knowledge of magic and illusions to unravel the mystery, often revealing the method behind the magic trick related to the episode's plot as part of the resolution. This not only provided a satisfying conclusion to the story but also educated the audience on how certain magic tricks were performed.

An interesting aspect of the show was the involvement of the real Harry Blackstone, Sr. in the creation of the character and the stories. This lent an air of authenticity to the episodes and allowed the show to incorporate real magic tricks into its plots. The magic tricks explained at the end of each episode were simple enough for listeners to perform, thereby increasing audience engagement.

The show was produced at a time when radio was a dominant form of entertainment in the United States, and "Blackstone, the Magic Detective" found its place among the myriad of mystery and detective shows, appealing to audiences with its unique blend of mystery and magic. Despite its relatively short run, the series left a lasting impact and is remembered fondly by enthusiasts of old-time radio shows.

The show normally opened with Blackstone (Ed Jerome) and his assistant Rhoda Brent (Fran Carlon) talking to their mate, either Don Hancock or Alan Kent (played in-character as themselves by the announcers of the episodes) or John Carlon (Ted Osborne).
