RADIO PLAY DESCRIPTION:
CHANGES: A Radio Play Based on the novel by Ama Ata Aidoo Produced for blaxTARLINES by the Legon Prɛkɛsɛ Theatre Group
About This Production
You are listening to a special radio adaptation of Ama Ata Aidoo's seminal novel, Changes: A Love Story.
This production reimagines Aidoo's complex exploration of African womanhood, marriage, and the tensions between tradition and modernity in contemporary Ghana. The play is adapted for the airwaves and directed by Dr. Agyeman Ossei (Dota). Drawing on his extensive background as a dramatist and former Director of the National Theatre, Ossei "directs" the sonic space to bring Aidoo's sharp dialogue and emotional depth to life. Through the Legon Prekese Theatre Group, this performance serves as a bridge between the literary masterwork and the oral tradition form of radio drama.

A Conversation between Dr. Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh and Dr. Agyeman Ossei (Dota)
About This Episode In this installment of the Art Talk series, we are joined by the multi-hyphenate artist and scholar Dr. Agyeman Ossei (widely known as Dota) for an illuminating look into his prolific yet "silent" art practice.
We trace his journey from his early years at KNUST to his deep-seated interest in the synthesis of Akan proverbial lore and contemporary sculpture. Dr. Ossei discusses his unique approach to materiality and "directing" visual spaces, drawing on his extensive background in theater and drama to breathe life into static forms. This conversation explores how his work functions as a bridge between the oral traditions of the past and the avant-garde present, offering a rare glimpse into the mind of a creator who moves seamlessly between the stage and the studio.
Profiles Dr. Agyeman Ossei (Guest) Dr. Agyeman Ossei, popularly known as Dota, is a distinguished Ghanaian painter, sculptor, and dramatist. Formerly the Head of the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Ghana, Legon, and a former Director of the National Theatre, his practice is defined by the translation of Akan philosophy, proverbs, and mythology into visual and performative languages. His work often utilizes heavy textures and proverbial motifs to challenge the boundaries between traditional African aesthetics and contemporary theater.
Dr. Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh (Interviewer) Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, Ph.D., is a curator, critic, and educator based at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. A Conversation between Dr. Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh (IUB) and Selasi Awusi Sosu (Part 2)
About This Episode
In this installment of the Art Talk series, we join artist and researcher Selasi Awusi Sosu for an expansive look into the evolution of her practice.
We trace her journey from her formative years at KNUST to her deep fascination with the Aboso Glass Factory, a site of industrial memory established by Kwame Nkrumah that has been silent since 1993. Selasi discusses her process of "harvesting" the site: transforming discarded glass, bottles, and the songs of the factory's current avian occupants into a multi-sensory experience.
This conversation dives into her contribution to Orderly Disorderly (2017), the landmark final installment of the blaxTARLINES exhibition trilogy held at the Museum of Science and Technology in Accra. From dark rooms filled with haunting factory sonics to glass prisms creating holographic echoes of the past, this episode offers a rare look into the technical aspects of her practice, as well her role in education.

About This Episode
A Conversation between Prof. Ablade Glover and Dr. Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh (IUB) Part 2
In the premiere episode of blaxxRADIO, we sit down with luminary Ghanaian artist, Prof. Ablade Glover, for a deep dive into his career. This interview took place in 2017 during blaxTARLINES KUMASI's exhibition titled "Orderly Disorderly," which paid homage to Prof. Glover's lifework.
Profile of Interviewer: Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, Ph.D., is a curator, critic, and educator at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. He is the curator of the group exhibition titled Fragments of a World After Its Own Image (2025) at APALAZZOGALLERY in Italy. His current research observes the exhibition as a pedagogical situation while positing the curator as a self-subverting authority.
Profile of Interviewee: Prof. Ablade Glover is a Ghanaian educator, modernist painter, and founder of Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Art Education and Dean of the College of Art at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, until 1994. His political vision of mobilizing artists towards economic emancipation in the early 1990s in a milieu of hopelessness has inspired blaxTARLINES KUMASI. "Orderly Disorderly" honors Professor Glover's lifework, and draws inspiration from his series of paintings—dubbed "Order in Disorder"—which expediently renders movement, dynamism, color, mood and spirit of crowd scenes and "faceless masses" (marketscapes, townscapes, celebrations, trotro stations, forestscapes, beachscapes, and so on) by manipulating the oil paint medium on canvas with a palette knife. For Glover, the materiality of the pigment also becomes part of what constitutes the picture on canvas.
