On this episode we talk about BLOCKED communication in three forms: children being blocked from talking about one parent to the other, significant others who are blocked from hearing/listening to their partner when they are voicing concerns or giving advice about their children, and co-parents blocked from being able to come to an understanding of fundamentally different values involving the children.  There’s consequences when you put a gag order on your children.  There’s frustration and hurt when you’re seeming being passed over by your significant other, especially when the ex isn’t.  There’s fear created when your ex acts looser with COVID related restrictions than you.  We discuss different perspectives on each topic and give suggestions on how you can get unstuck in each situation.  The big takeaways are to keep it all about what is in the best interest of the kids, find gratitude and lead with empathy.  Having a blended family means thinking outside the box and stretching your opinions and perceptions beyond your limited understanding; we hope we can stretch you just a bit.

Why is talking about blended families and life in general important? Because we believe that we can do better than what statistics say about second marriages lasting, about blending families making it, that’s why! A 70% divorce rate statistic for remarriages with children is simply unacceptable! Spreading life lessons, passing along wisdom gained from experience and bringing to light what is often happily left in the dark to hide, is how we all can learn to be better, to do better the second time around (in a blended family many lives depend on it). Together we can avoid costly mistakes that will end in the demise of our precious families.
