- German police have seized their largest-ever cryptocurrency amount, 50,000 bitcoins worth $2.17 billion. The seizure is tied to a 2013 piracy website case that violated the Copyright Act. On January 24, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) extended the deadline for deciding on BlackRock’s proposed Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF), citing the need for additional review time. The final decision on BlackRock’s ETF, with a deadline of August 7, is anticipated by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas to align with a collective decision on all pending Ethereum ETFs in May. The SEC also delayed its decision on Grayscale Investments’ spot Ethereum ETF, inviting public comments and initiating proceedings to evaluate NYSE Arca’s proposal to list and trade Grayscale Ethereum Trust shares. 💹 Magic Eden, the NFT marketplace, has introduced a multi-chain wallet that now supports the Solana, Bitcoin, Polygon, and Ethereum blockchains. The platform initially released the beta version of its wallet back in November 2023, limited to a select group of early testers. The official release of the wallet was hinted at in a post on Friday. 🔴 BlackRock Rich getting richer

❗ The BlackRock iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) has become the first among recently launched spot bitcoin products to surpass $2 billion in assets under management (AUM). This milestone was achieved on Friday. Notably, Grayscale Investments’s GBTC, which was a closed-end fund before converting to a spot ETF, had almost $30 billion in AUM. On Thursday, investors added around $170 million to IBIT, enabling the fund to acquire nearly 4,300 bitcoin (BTC). This increased the total tokens held by the fund to 49,952. 💥 OKB, the native token of the crypto exchange OKX, saw a sudden and drastic drop in value on Tuesday. The token plunged by more than 50% to a low of $25 in just three minutes before stabilizing. Executives from the exchange said they were investigating the root cause behind the abnormal price fluctuation, later issuing an update on X suggesting that the volatility was triggered by liquidations that were set off when the price moved lower after a general decline in the market. According to a tweet by Bloomberg’s Senior Litigation Analyst, Elliot Z. Stein, he assesses a 70% chance of victory for Coinbase in its motion to dismiss all claims made by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This evaluation follows the oral arguments presented by Coinbase on Wednesday. He highlighted how Judge Katherine Polk Failla wanted the SEC to provide a definition of “investment contract” that wouldn’t ultimately encompass innocuous collectable items such as Beanie Babies. The recent classification of LUNA and MIR as securities by a U.S. judge and an ongoing class action lawsuit in Singapore prompted this strategic move. Documents filed on January 21st indicate the voluntary petition for bankruptcy by Terraform Labs Pte. 🔥 In a filing made on January 11, here https://lnkd.in/dBfXSVbM the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Exchange Commission (SEC) has escalated its legal efforts against Ripple Labs, Inc., aiming to enforce the production of essential financial documents. This development is a continuation of the ongoing legal dispute that began in December 2020, where the SEC asserted that Ripple’s XRP sales amounted to unregistered securities offerings. The regulatory body is specifically requesting financial statements for the years 2022 and 2023 as part of its pursuit in the legal case against Ripple.

❗ The SEC contends that these documents and the ‘interrogatory’ are crucial for Judge Torres to make informed decisions on potential relief, including injunctions and civil penalties. The regulatory body asserts that the financial information requested is fundamental for tailoring a penalty that would effectively deter future violations.

💰 CBDC as money?
❗ Several bills in the US Senate are challenging the classification of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) as ‘money.’ These legislative proposals have the potential to pose substantial obstacles to the development and implementation of a CBDC in the United States. Cointelegraph article confirms Bills against referring to central bank digital currency (CBDC) as money have been filed in the states of Utah, South Carolina, South Dakota and Tennessee.
