👀 Crypto developer platform Gitcoin has lost approximately $460,000 worth of Gitcoin (GTC) tokens due to an accidental transfer to an unrecoverable contract address. The funds were meant for a merchandise, memes, and marketing budget proposal but ended up in a GTC token contract instead. These funds are now trapped with no way to retrieve them, as reported on October 6 by project lead Coach Jonathan on the Gitcoin governance forum. More info on this here https://lnkd.in/dBMkMRBq

💲 A total of 521,440 GTC tokens were lost in the snafu. The coin was trading at just below $0.90 at the time, making the dollar loss an estimated $461,000.

🚨 Wu reports that a study conducted by Dragonfly data scientist hildobby, using data from Dune analytics, shows that Coinbase currently holds 3.873 million staked ETH, making up 14.1% of the total staked ETH. Coinbase’s significant presence in the ETH staking arena is second only to the liquid staking platform, Lido DAO, which controls a remarkable one-third of all staked ETH.

🚨 Binance and Kraken Digital Asset Exchange have a 4.2% and 3.0% market share, respectively. Meanwhile, the Figment staking pool comes third with a 4.9% market dominance.

❗ The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has formally requested that a federal judge reject Coinbase’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the regulatory agency. The SEC has claimed that Coinbase has been aware from the outset that the cryptocurrencies it offers are considered securities when they meet the criteria of the Howey test. The regulatory body also alleges that Coinbase acknowledged this fact in its submissions to the SEC. The race to develop AI chips continues as Samsung Electronics’s chip manufacturing department partnered with Canadian startup Tenstorrent Inc. to produce chips and intellectual property for data centres. On Oct. 2, the startup announced the partnership with Samsung, saying it will use it to bring the “next generation of AI chiplets to market.” Tenstorrent manufactures chips and intellectual property (IP) for data centres.

🟢 Cointelegraph reported on the 28th Sep that Investment firm Valkyrie will start offering exposure to Ether futures in the coming day, Starting Oct. 3, the fund’s name will be updated to the Valkyrie Bitcoin and Ether Strategy ETF. It will allow investors access to Ether and Bitcoin futures “under one wrapper,” making it one of the first firms to do so amid several pending applications with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

❗ A federal government shutdown is looming, set to begin on October 1 unless Congress successfully passes spending legislation. In the event of a shutdown, nonessential government functions would come to a halt. From 01st Oct, Looks like  It's black and it's pink once the sun down, When the Republicans pull up, you know it's a shutdown.  This means that federal workers would not receive their paychecks, some households may experience delays in receiving certain federal benefits, and customer service for individuals with student loans and other federal services could face significant disruptions. The longer the shutdown lasts, the greater the potential impact will be on various aspects of government services and the lives of citizens.

What does it mean for Crypto?
- Sheila Warren, CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation, feels forward progress on bills will be stalled,

🗞️ Ethereum ETF update
🟠 The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has extended the deadlines for reviewing the applications for spot Ether ETFs submitted by ARK 21Shares and VanEck. Additionally, they have granted more time for the evaluation of spot Bitcoin ETF applications from ARK 21Shares and GlobalX, with these extensions taking effect on September 26th.

🟠 In separate notices filed Sept. 27, the SEC said it would designate a
longer period on whether to approve or disapprove of a proposed rule change that would allow listings of spot ETH ETFs from VanEck and ARK 21Shares on the Cboe Global Markets BZX Exchange. The commission said it had received no public comments on either proposal and would push the deadlines for another delay or decision to Dec. 25 and Dec. 26, respectively. ❗ The Federal Reserve Banks of Boston and New York published a staff report on Sept. 26 comparing stablecoins, such as Tether USDT and Circles USDC to money market funds.

📊 The report titled “Runs and Flights to Safety: Are Stablecoins the New Money Market Funds? is here https://lnkd.in/d9c2DSEe In the report they investigate similarities and differences between the two, comparing investor behaviour during the stablecoin runs of 2022 and 2023 to investor behaviour during the money market fund runs of 2008 and 2020. The report acknowledges that similarly to money market fund investors, stablecoin investors engage in a flight to safety.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury has added a crypto wallet allegedly connected to a major international crime syndicate to its list of Specially Designated Nationals.
