  • President Emmanuel Macron Supports Recognition of French House Music as Cultural Heritage

If Daft Punk’s helmets ever end up under museum glass beside a Monet painting, you’ll know Emmanuel Macron's cultural campaign has hit its mark.

The French President has announced his intentions to nominate French touch, the influential sub-genre of house music born in 1990s Paris, for recognition on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

Speaking on the French station Radio FG during the recent Fête de la Musique festival, Macron praised the genre's international influence and called for its formal preservation. He cited Germany’s similar move in 2023 to place Berlin techno on its national intangible cultural heritage registry as precedent.

"We are inventors of electro. We have that French Touch," Macron said, per The Telegraph.

Roughly a decade after Berlin’s rise, French touch found its pulse in the hands of artists like Daft Punk, whose filtered disco and vocoded magic forever redefined electronic music culture. Since that time, France has produced several iconic figures of the broader movement including Justice, David Guetta, Bob Sinclar and Lauren Garnier.

Macron's call to preserve French house as cultural heritage reads as part of a broader defense of human creativity, arriving at a moment when the global music industry is grappling with the impact of artificial intelligence. "AI mustn't replace human intelligence," he warned during the interview, adding that it "mustn't trivialize creativity."

  • Martin Garrix Set to Make U.S. Debut as YTRAM Alias After Nearly a Decade

Martin Garrix's enigmatic alter ego, YTRAM, is stepping into the spotlight on American soil for the very first time, Insomniac Events has confirmed to EDM.com.

The alias, a reversed spelling of "Marty," first emerged onstage at Tomorrowland back in 2017, cloaked behind a mask.

What began as a one-off surprise is now starting a new chapter stateside, with YTRAM slated to make his long-awaited U.S. debut Sunday, June 29th, the final night of Garrix's three-day headlining run at Los Angeles State Historic Park. The weekender, produced by Insomniac, is scheduled for June 27-29.

View the original article to see embedded media.

YTRAM's sonic ethos is built on a foundation of tech and deep house. In the years that followed the project's premiere at Tomorrowland, YTRAM releases were few but focused, including standout collaborations in 2020 with Bleu Clair ("Make You Mine") and Elderbrook ("Fire").

Live performances from YTRAM have remained extremely rare, so the news of his U.S. debut is particularly notable. The evening's lineup is rounded out with performances by DJ Ruckus, Lavern, Tchami and a headlining set by Garrix.

You can purchase tickets to the show at Los Angeles State Historic Park here.

  • Sara Landry Breaks Club Space Streaming Record With 8-Hour DJ Set: Watch

Picture this: You're at Club Space, it's 3am and Sara Landry is just hitting her stride. Seven hours later, the "high priestess of hard techno" is still behind the decks, and somehow you're still standing as she's breaking records.

Landry on May 27th delivered the longest streamed performance in the history of the iconic Miami club, her publicity team has confirmed to EDM.com. The techno superstar and EDM.com Class of 2024 inductee performed for nearly eight hours until 11am, ultimately securing the longest DJ set ever recorded at the venue.

The performance speaks to techno's unique power to suspend time itself, and the genre's tendency to demand commitment from its crowds. In an era of TikTok attention spans, watching thousands of people commit to an eight-hour marathon set from Landry feels genuinely subversive.

The Spiritual Driveby producer called the night an "unforgettable throw down" at the time.

You can watch all eight hours of Landry's record-breaking performance at Club Space below.

  • Listen to Hamdi's Filthy New EP, "Abomination"

Electronic music in 2025 can often feel too glossy and over-produced, which makes Hamdi's deliberate ugliness on his new EP, Abomination, feel like necessary surgery.

Released independently, the project finds the EDM.com Class of 2024 artist producing a collection of five monstrosities that refuse the desperate gleam of today's festival circuit. Hamdi kicks the door down with "Lamp," opening the EP with his signature dubstep wobbles alongside Visages, the esteemed producer on Alix Perez's 1985 Music.

Then comes Abomination's titular track, which throws caution to the wind with its filthy drops. The same can be said of the ensuing "Orchid," a collaboration with LYNY where the trap phenom runs roughshod through an arrangement bursting with his signature squelching bass.

The EP follows with "Ride Up to the Door," a rave banger that commands footwork through its frenetic four-on-the-floor rhythm. Hamdi then switches gears with "Move On," closing the EP with a stunning liquid UK garage track.

  • Deep Tropics, "The Greenest Festival in North America," Returning to Nashville in 2025

Deep Tropics, known as "the greenest festival in North America," is returning to Nashville this August.

Four unique stages will transform Bicentennial Park into a neon-soaked oasis on August 15th and 16th. The festival's 2025 lineup features Chris Lake, Alison Wonderland, Subtronics, Liquid Stranger and many more acclaimed electronic music artists.

    Deep Tropics

However, Deep Tropics is much more than just a music festival, thanks to its commitment to environmental sustainability. In 2024, the festival successfully diverted 87% of waste from landfills. Plus, they're able to offset their annual carbon footprint through a large-scale tree-planting initiative.

Speaking with EDM.com last year, the festival’s founders credited their sustainability success to meticulous sourcing: choosing compostable materials, cutting out single-use plastics and even recycling “impossible” items like microplastics and cigarette butts.

Staying true to this eco-conscious ethos, Deep Tropics will host its second annual Sustainability Summit before the festival kicks off. Scheduled for Nashville’s Studio 615 on August 14th, the event will bring together local leaders, artists and arbiters of change to explore how environmental, wellness and regenerative practices can uplift cities.

    c/o Deep Tropics

One of the most anticipated presentations at this year's Sustainability Summit is from activist Madame Gandhi, who transforms climate data and sounds from endangered ecosystems into music. Elsewhere, keynote speaker Tony Cho will share trailblazing insights on regenerative development and community transformation.

Attendees can expect a day of thought-provoking conversations, live music, local food and much more.

“Each year, we push the boundaries of what a music festival can be—not just in terms of the lineup, but in the experience we create and the impact we leave behind," said Blake Atchison, Deep Tropics' Co-Founder, in a press release. "From the Deep Culture Speakeasy, art installations and fashion show, to the food & beverage program; every element is designed to inspire, energize and cultivate a community that cares about each other and the future. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Music City for another unforgettable year.”

  • 12 Arrested After "Syringe Assaults" Target Women at French Music Festival

At least 145 people were injured in coordinated "syringe assaults" during France's Fête de la Musique festival on Saturday, prompting authorities to investigate posts on social media that had called for women to be targeted, France 24 reports.

French police have detained 12 suspects across multiple cities following the attacks during the celebration, which annually draws millions of participants to street performances and outdoor concerts.

The attacks were first reported in the eastern city of Metz between Place de la République and Place Saint-Jacques in the city center, where 17 young women were transported to a local hospital after being injected with syringes. They are predominantly minors and aged between 14 and 20, Mayor François Grosdidier said in a Facebook post.

A man was reportedly arrested at the scene in Metz after being identified by one of his victims.

"On social networks, a call for syringe assaults has been launched during the Music Festivals in major cities," Grosdidier wrote. "It happened in two other cities in Moselle and all over France."

In Paris, prosecutors officially launched investigations after three people, one of whom was a 15-year-old girl, were jabbed in separate episodes. Each victim reported "feeling unwell," but the contents of the injections have not yet been determined by authorities. The city ultimately reported 13 similar incidents.

The Fête de la Musique, established in 1982, annually transforms French cities into outdoor concert venues with free performances. This year's celebration was overshadowed by the widespread nature of the attacks, which targeted primarily young women and teenagers.

Several parents reported their children had seen threatening messages on platforms like TikTok prior to the start of Fête de la Musique.

"I wanted to take my wife and children to the Fête de la Musique in Metz," one father told La Republicain Lorrain. "My 13-year-old daughter told me she didn’t want to go because of the messages she saw on TikTok. So we stayed home."

Over 370 people were reportedly arrested on various charges over the festival's duration. 14 attendees were seriously injured, including a 17-year-old who was hospitalized with stab wounds to the lower abdomen. 13 members of law enforcement were also injured, according to local reports.

Investigations into the coordinated syringe attacks remain ongoing.

  • Solomun Launches New Record Label, Love Recycled

Solomun has established a new record label, Love Recycled, marking a significant revival of his project reimagining classic tracks for contemporary audiences.

Originated in 2011, the DJ's "Love Recycled" series focused on updating beloved classics for modern dancefloors. Solomun at the time launched it by virtue of three house reworks of pop and R&B tracks, including one of Michael McDonald's 1982 hit "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)."

14 years later, the influential house music producer has now spun the concept into a full-fledged record label. He's planning to officially unveil it Friday, June 27th by virtue of its inaugural release, "Love Recycled 4," his reimagining of Change's 1980 disco track "Angel In My Pocket."

"Now that Love Recycled has grown into its own label, the vision expands beyond Solomun himself," according to the label. "A new wave of world-class artists will take part, continuing the mission of celebrating and reimagining the classics."
