  • Getter Officially Returning to the Stage After Indefinite Hiatus

After an indefinite break from performing, Getter is set to make his long-awaited return to the stage.

The virtuosic DJ and producer has been confirmed to perform at Nashville's Pinnacle venue, where dubstep superstar SVDDEN DEATH is hosting a curated two-day takeover July 11-12. Getter's performance on the 11th is billed as a "Resurrection Set," a fitting title for an artist sorely missed by the electronic music community.

The announcement arrives on the heels of Getter's signing to United Talent Agency, signaling a substantial comeback for the influential producer, whose last original electronic release was 2021's Some Creature EP. More tour dates are in the works, according to his agent.

Getter is slated to DJ before the night's headliner, VOYD, SVDDEN DEATH's more experimental alter ego. The full "Pinnacle" lineup also features HVDES, Space Wizard and EDM.com Class of 2022 artist Akeos, among others. The event will conclude July 12th by virtue of a b2b set between SVDDEN DEATH and surging dubstep producer yvm3.

  • Two Men Jailed for Music Festival Attack That Left Attendee Blind in One Eye

Two men have been jailed after attacking a university lecturer at a Scottish music festival and leaving him permanently blind in one eye, the BBC reports.

Patrick Kerr, 33, and Simon Tierney, 38, were sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow to terms of five-and-a-half and four-and-a-half years in prison, respectively. The pair assaulted the victim, 53-year-old Antonio Grant, at the Rewind Festival at Scone Palace in July 2023.

Grant, who was attending the festival with his family, did not personally know Kerr or Tierney but had engaged in brief and "polite" conversation with them earlier that day. The assault reportedly occurred after Grant declined Tierney's offer of a chip. The former was punched in the head and knocked to the ground, then repeatedly kicked and punched by both assailants.

The festival's security intervened to stop the attack, but the victim sustained serious injuries, including six broken teeth, the permanent loss of vision in his right eye and extensive facial trauma that required the insertion of a metal plate into his jaw.

Both men admitted to the assault and pleaded guilty to causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement. Upon sentencing, the judge decried their actions as a "brutal, cowardly alcohol-fueled attack on a vulnerable victim." Both Kerr and Tierney will be supervised for two years after their release and are banned indefinitely from contacting the victim.

  • Beats and Burgers: Ibiza's New [UNVRS] Venue Has a "Burger Club" Inside

Ibiza's highly anticipated new nightclub, [UNVRS], officially opens its doors this Friday, May 30th, marking an ambitious new chapter in the island’s storied nightlife scene. Created by Yann Pissenem and The Night League—the minds behind hotspots Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza—the venue combines arena-scale production with a luxury clubbing experience.

Adding to the fanfare, [UNVRS] will also host what The Night League is calling Ibiza's first-ever "burger club" inside its futuristic walls. VICIO's cult-favorite smash burger brand, known for its hit locations in Mallorca and Formentera, is bringing its culinary prowess to the White Isle with a new fried chicken and caviar dish made exclusively for [UNVRS].

The launch campaign kicked off with a cheeky billboard on May 26th that reads, "Finally a legal VICIO on the island." In an announcement video, two secret agents protect a mysterious burger box in a Men in Black-style spoof, which ends with a warning: "Fried chicken and caviar? Not for you. Not for us either. Just for [UNVRS]."

On the music side, [UNVRS] is poised to present residencies from Anyma, FISHER, David Guetta and many more this summer season as the club ushers in one of the most high-profile venue debuts in recent memory. You can find out more here.

  • NYC Council Passes Resolution Supporting Higher Pay for Artists on Streaming Services

The New York City Council on Tuesday passed a resolution endorsing federal legislation that would create new royalty payments for musicians whose work generates billions in revenue but leaves many earning below minimum wage.

Resolution 368, introduced by Council Member Shahana Hanif, supports the Living Wage for Musicians Act, which would establish additional streaming royalties paid directly to artists on top of their existing compensation. The federal bill was originally introduced by Representative Rashida Tlaib and former Representative Jamaal Bowman in collaboration with United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW).

With a coalition of independent music producers, songwriters and other industry workers, UMAW has taken direct aim at major streaming platforms, organizing high-profile lobbying efforts since its 2020 inception to demand fairer compensation models from companies like Spotify and Apple Music. Through sustained public pressure and grassroots mobilization, the advocacy group has catalyzed a broader reckoning over the value of music labor in the digital age.

"In the music capital of the world, artists deserve fair pay and dignity," Hanif said in a press release. "As streaming platforms pay artists less than a third of a penny per play, this is a critical step toward making our city more affordable for working musicians to continue living and creating music here."

UMAW members with New York City Council Member Shahana Hanif after the passage of Resolution 368, which supports the Living Wage for Musicians Act.

    c/o Joey La Neve DeFrancesco

Joey La Neve DeFrancesco, a musician and UMAW organizer, called the resolution "a huge win for NYC musicians" that demonstrates how collective action can drive change in the industry.

"From here, we will aim to have similar resolutions passed in other cities, and use this momentum to gain co-sponsors and reintroduce the bill in Congress, and to pass it," DeFrancesco said in an emailed statement provided to EDM.com. "We still have a lot of work to do, but passing this Resolution in the biggest city in the US is a huge step."

The coalition's goal, DeFrancesco tells us, is "for the new royalty to equal at least a penny per stream, in addition to existing royalties."

UMAW in 2020 unsuccessfully launched a vigorous campaign, "Justice at Spotify," calling for the company to remit penny-per-stream payouts to artists. The group at the time organized a series of worldwide protests hosted outside Spotify offices in 15 cities before the streaming giant refused their demands.

Spotify in late-April reported that its premium subscriber base grew by five million in Q1. The company's earnings report also revealed a record-high quarterly operating income of €509 million as its total revenue ballooned 15% year-over-year to €4.2 billion. The company's stock is up a staggering 670% since late-2022, according to The Motley Fool.

Council Member Carmen De La Rosa, who chairs the Committee on Civil Service and Labor, further highlighted the economic disparity facing New York City's estimated 14,000 musicians.

"The Living Wage for Musicians Act is a lifeline for musicians who must rely on an exploitative royalty structure to make ends meet," she said, "and uplifts a vibrant workforce that deserves to be paid fairly for their art and talent."

  • Luca Draccar Drops Industrial Techno EP, "The Dark Side"

Step into the shadows with Luca Draccar's The Dark Side, a four-track EP with pulsating techno and unfiltered energy.

Draccar's latest EP is a plunge into industrial techno, built for the depths of underground raves. Across four tracks, the producer crafts a relentless sonic landscape where churning basslines and metallic textures collide, creating an experience that feels both hypnotic and menacing.

Draccar’s strength lies in his ability to balance raw production with a sense of controlled chaos. The Dark Side builds both mood and impact, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its dark corridors.

One of the project's standouts, "Reckless Flower," pulses with a vintage trance undercurrent, its shimmering arpeggios twisting through a fog of deep, rolling bass. It’s a track that distorts time, pulling listeners into its gravitational field of euphoric tension and release.

On the other end of the spectrum, "Outlaws Division" veers into harder techno territory, with pounding kicks and eerie soundscapes that evoke the thrill of a clandestine warehouse party at its peak. It's another highlight of The Dark Side, out now.

  • "Avicii Forever" Collection Enters Spotify's Top 5 Most Streamed Albums of All-Time

Avicii's posthumous compilation album, Avicii Forever, has rocketed into Spotify's top five most-streamed albums of all-time, accumulating over 14 billion streams, according to data from Kworb.

The achievement places the late Tim Bergling's work alongside contemporary giants including Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti, which maintains the top spot with nearly 19.6 billion streams. The Weeknd's Starboy and Ed Sheeran's ÷ round out the top three while Olivia Rodrigo's chart-topping debut, the teenage heartbreak masterclass SOUR, sits just ahead of the Avicii collection.

Released May 16th via Interscope, the collection couples Bergling's defining catalog with "Let's Ride Away," a previously unreleased collaboration with Elle King. That track represents one of the EDM icon's final creative endeavors prior to his tragic 2018 death by suicide at the age of 28.

It's worth noting that the songs featured on Avicii Forever had already amassed their streams individually prior to the compilation's release. While the streaming milestone is significant, it reflects the enduring popularity of the DJ's catalog more than a sudden surge tied to new content.

To that end, what makes this ascent particularly striking isn't only the speed, but also what it reveals about how streaming platforms turn nostalgia into data points. The beat drops, and so do we—right back into feelings we didn't know we still had.

  • Egzod Launches Drum & Bass Alias, Merage, With Debut Single "Replay"

Egzod is back with a new alias, Merage, launching the project with his debut single "Replay."

Known for his cinematic bass music, the DJ and producer isn’t new to high-stakes electronic production. But with Merage, he's swapped the dramatic peaks and valleys for the whiplash rush of drum & bass.

Out now via Monstercat, "Replay" is a storm of kinetic percussion and self-sabotage, with lyrics that hit like a Red Bull laced with regret: “My head’s a mess, I’m out of luck / I guess I’m lost when you’re around."

Like any great drum & bass track, it doesn’t wallow, but sprints. There’s power in the propulsion, especially in the drop, a cathartic release mirroring the strength we all conjure when emotionally respawning—just to get wrecked again.

You can listen to "Replay" below and find the new single on streaming platforms here.

  • Kygo's Palm Tree Crew Backs Mary Lou's, Elevating a Bold New Voice In Nightlife

Hidden behind a faux bait-and-tackle storefront in Palm Beach, one of the most audacious nightlife experiments in recent memory now has the backing of some of dance music’s most influential artists. Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew has officially acquired a stake in Mary Lou’s, the lavish hospitality concept that’s quickly become Palm Beach’s most enigmatic and buzzed-about nightlife haunt.

Founded by hospitality innovators Alex Melillo, Joe Cervasio and Topher Grubb, Mary Lou’s is now poised to take its brand beyond South Florida. With Kygo's lifestyle empire at its side, the concept is slated to debut in Montauk this summer, the first step in a wider expansion.

“The partnership with Palm Tree Crew truly felt like a natural alignment from the start—we share the same energy, ambition and commitment to creating unforgettable moments,” said Alex Melillo, co-founder of Mary Lou’s and Mama Hospitality. “We each bring unique value to the table, and together, we create a powerful engine for delivering world-class experiences. At the end of the day, we’re both in the business of making memories, and this collaboration elevates our ability to do just that."

Since its grand "Black Tie Surrealism Affair" opening in January, Mary Lou’s has added star power to its creative braintrust, naming two-time Grammy nominees SOFI TUKKER as Creative Entertainment Directors alongside chart-topping duo The Chainsmokers. They've each taken an active role in shaping the venue’s acoustics and programming, reinforcing its identity as a performance-first destination built for, and by, artists.

Palm Tree Crew’s backing offers Mary Lou’s expanded reach and strategic alignment with a lifestyle brand that's already making waves across Miami, Orlando and most recently, Las Vegas.

"Rarely does a hospitality concept bring an experience to its customers that is truly unique and fresh, and we believe that Mama Hospitality has quickly been able to accomplish that," added Myles Shear, co-founder of Palm Tree Crew. "This partnership will allow Mary Lou's to bring its concept to new markets and share this experience with customers looking for something authentic and new."

Palm Tree Crew and Mama Hospitality are set to launch a new holding company for Mary Lou's and future concepts. The brand will also serve as the "official nighttime hospitality counterpart" to Palm Tree Crew's daytime festival properties, per a press release.
