  • A Decade and 100 Million Streams Later, Scott Benson Band's "Requiem for a Dream" Reimagined by tyDi

In the pantheon of timeless film scores, Clint Mansell's haunting Requiem for a Dream theme stands alongside the giants. Scott Benson Band's famous rock adaptation gave it new life back in 2015, and now tyDi has reimagined it yet again, with results that are nothing short of spectacular.

The influential DJ and producer's stunning rework is part of a new remix bundle called Requiem for a Dream Rewired. It's releasing in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of SBB's original track, which charted around the globe before surpassing 100 million collective streams and half a billion TikTok views.

If you've seen Darren Aronofsky's iconic Requiem for a Dream film, you know that calling it "intense" is an understatement. It's a spiraling fever dream of addiction, electro-shock and irreversible loss that sticks with you like a nightmare you can't quite shake.

tyDi's production maintains that sense of mounting dread, transforming the band's rendition into a claustrophobic, glitched-out odyssey infused with contorting synths and sharp breakbeats. Those familiar, eerie strings now pierce through layers of distortion, creating a tension between classical grandeur and digital decay that perfectly mirrors the film's exploration of deteriorating dreams.

Nostalgia these days is all too often regurgitated for cheap commercial consumption, but tyDi approaches his remix with reverence. The same goes for Jared Robinson, a founding member of Scott Benson Band, whose own spellbinding remix rounds out the group's new two-track anniversary release.

  • Damon Sharpe, AXON and Kirsten Collins Drop Hedonistic House Track, "Gucci Lemonade"

Somewhere between midnight champagne and sunrise regrets, Damon Sharpe, AXON and Kristen Collins' new single "Gucci Lemonade" finds its perfect listening hour.

An unabashed celebration of bottle service and caviar dreams, the house track is the 100th release on Sharpe's record label, Brainjack Music. Collins serves as its sultry narrator, her unapologetic vocals sliding between the pulsing bassline like a black card through a platinum reader.

The production, meanwhile, is polished and pumping. Those familiar with Sharpe's Billboard-charting pedigree will recognize his signature polish, and together with AXON, bass drops like designer ice cubes into a glass of something far too expensive to spill on the dancefloor.

But the track doesn't apologize for its materialistic fantasies. When Collins purrs about setting her "purse on fire," it's less a declaration of financial recklessness and more an anthem for momentary escape.

  • Supertask's New Event Series Will Transform the Dancefloor Into a Psychological Experiment

Supertask is turning his crowds into participants for a unique psychological experiment designed to study group dynamics at live shows.

The upcoming concert experience in Denver will examine behavioral patterns like conformity, collective attention and interaction, George Sideris, Supertask's manager, tells EDM.com. The data collected will ultimately contribute to published academic research, offering a deeper understanding of how we connect and behave at concerts.

As the DJ performs live, interactive segments and smartphone interaction will collect high-fidelity crowd data. A narrator on an LED wall will guide crowd members through these moments of participation, turning them into both subjects and co-creators of the ambitious experiment.

Infrared cameras, motion sensors and a smartphone interface will work in unison to capture behavioral data in real-time, providing crucial insights for the analysis of social dynamics in a live music setting. Light, sound and movement will all serve as variables in the data collection.

"Not only will this effort open the doors for a new type of entertainment experience, blurring the lines between attendee and performer, but it will also directly contribute to developing the tools necessary to quantify the unique phenomena that emerge from human crowds," Sideris explains.

The initiative's testing ground is a three-night event series at Cervantes' Other Side, appropriately titled "Calibration," which will lay the foundation for a larger behavioral study from Supertask's team. They're planning on fine-tuning the technology for an expanded tour in a number of major cities.

"The whole idea is blending science and art, turning live events into real-time laboratories to study crowd behavior," Supertask tells EDM.com. "This event specifically is about calibrating our technology and refining the system. Once we've dialed this in, we'll be able to transform an entire tour into a large-scale psychological study, gathering unprecedented insights into collective human behavior."

Supertask's "Calibration" series in Denver is scheduled for July 31st to August 2nd. Tickets are currently sold out.

  • Motor City Memento: ESSE Transforms Detroit Club Classic Into New House Anthem

ESSE is back with a new single, "Detroit," proving that echoes of Motor City's machine soul still have new stories to tell.

Out now via Tchami's Confession imprint, the new single follows ESSE's "Block Rockin Beats," a bold reinterpretation of The Chemical Brothers' 1997 breakbeat classic of the same name. With "Detroit," the mysterious producer is quickly proving his ability to rework timeless dancefloor staples without stripping them of their spirit.

Sampling Fedde Le Grand's 2006 classic "Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit," ESSE retrofits the original's clubby cheer into something darker, sleeker and more dystopian. Once a straightforward party chant, the vocals are now warped and mutated with a cybernetic touch, drenched in vocoder and glitch as they slither through the track's pumping bassline.

There's no euphoric builds or flashy, overproduced drops in "Detroit"—just a focused, heady groove that never lets up. Gritty, minimal and relentlessly propulsive, it's house music built with techno's DNA.

  • Groove Cruise Unveils 2026 Lineup With John Summit, Green Velvet, Lilly Palmer and More

The open sea is calling, and it sounds like techno, trance and house beats deep enough to anchor a cruise ship.

Whet Travel's beloved floating festival, Groove Cruise, just dropped the lineup for its 2026 sailing. It's once again taking place on Wonder of the Seas, the kind of ship that looks like a small city and somehow fits a nightclub on every deck.

John Summit leads the bill, followed by a slew of influential house artists the likes of Chris Lorenzo, Cassian, Green Velvet and Cloonee. The lineup also features a trio of EDM.com Class of 2025 inductees: Max Styler, Layton Giordani and Wakyin.

Advancing their commitment to booking female talent, this year's billing features a total of 36 women, comprising nearly a third of the total lineup, a Groove Cruise representative confirmed to EDM.com. Attendees can catch performances by Lilly Palmer, Azzecca, Blossom, Luci and Sarah de Warren, among others.

A particular highlight will come with a punk-infused DJ set by Girl Math, the collaborative alias of Nala and VNSSA.

"There's this implied thing with girlhood that's like, we're great at everything and we hold it all down, and sometimes that goes without credit," Nala told EDM.com in a recent interview. "So girlhood is about getting shit done, even if it means not totally getting acknowledged for the work that went into it."

The festival will depart from Miami on January 22nd and head to Nassau before returning five days later. You can check out the full Groove Cruise 2026 lineup below and purchase passes here.

The 2026 lineup for Groove Cruise features John Summit, Cloonee, Green Velvet, Joel Corry, Lilly Palmer, VNSSA, Cassian and more.

  • Marten Hørger DJed After Breaking His Foot Chasing a Pizza Delivery Guy

Some DJs drop bangers. Meanwhile, Marten Hørger dropped everything to save a pizza.

The Beatport chart-topping DJ and producer recently revealed that he broke his foot, not jumping behind the decks or crowd-surfing, but chasing down a pizza delivery guy. According to the "hangry" Hørger, the employee was about to walk into the wrong hotel, so he sprinted to intercept him and ultimately paid the price by fracturing foot.

The silver lining? "Yes, I saved the pizza," he wrote in an Instagram post, proudly sharing the evidence in the final slide of a carousel. The irony? The slogan on the pizza box was: "Your slice of ambition is served."

    Marten Hørger/Instagram

Despite the injury, Hørger isn't pumping the brakes. Cast-clad and crutch-assisted, he headed straight from the emergency room to his DJ set that night. Maybe someone told him to "break a leg" before the show—if so, mission partially accomplished.

"I'll just have to wear this cast for a few weeks," Hørger added, noting that doctors gave him the green light to keep traveling and performing.

It's not the first time electronic dance music has seen an artist soldier through broken bones. PEEKABOO DJed with one arm after breaking his shoulder back in 2021 and just a few months later, Hannah Wants broke her leg in a scooter accident on the island of Ibiza.

Hørger's tale, however, stands out for its relatability. After all, who among us hasn’t risked it all for a good pizza?

  • GRiZ's Sold-Out Seven Stars Festival Offers Free Admission for Volunteers

The new Seven Stars Festival, the brainchild of electronic music superstar GRiZ, is seeking volunteers in exchange for admission to the sold-out event.

Scheduled for October 10-12 in Arrington, Virginia, the festival has partnered with Clean Vibes, a sustainability-focused event services company, to provide waste and recycling management services. The organization is now recruiting individuals to volunteer during and after the three-day event in exchange for access, according to its onsite coordinator.

The inaugural Seven Stars Festival sold out shortly after tickets went on sale, so the volunteer opportunity stands as one of the only remaining ways to secure access. The festival will feature three sets by GRiZ as well as performances from Subtronics, Disco Lines, Levity, Wooli and EDM.com Class of 2025 stars ALLEYCVT and Tape B, among others.

Prospective volunteers can apply for one of several available positions, including morning cleanup and table bussing roles during the event, or post-show cleanup shifts. Each of the mid-festival roles requires a commitment of three five-hour shifts and volunteers will assist in clearing debris from the venue, helping maintain the grounds between each day of programming. Those who opt for the post-event option will check in on Monday, October 13th and work full-day shifts on Tuesday and Wednesday to help return the grounds to their pre-festival state.

In return, volunteers receive a general admission wristband granting access to all GA areas, a Clean Vibes volunteer shirt and a camping vehicle pass, with participants expected to bring their own camping gear. Post-festival volunteers will also be provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner during their workdays and can remain onsite through noon on Thursday.

A refundable deposit and a small signup fee are required to confirm a spot through Clean Vibes' VolunteerLocal system. The deposit will be returned after the successful completion of all volunteer responsibilities.

Details and the volunteer application form are available on Clean Vibes' website and you can find the original call for volunteers on the r/GRiZ subreddit.

  • Alison Wonderland Returns to Trap Music With Unapologetic New Single, "Get Started"

Alison Wonderland makes a welcome return to trap music with her new single, "Get Started."

Out now on Casablanca Records, the track reintroduces the high-intensity sounds that first put her on the map. Only this time, it hits even harder.

"Get Started" will appear on a new album dropping this fall, according to a press release shared with EDM.com. It opens with a pulsing arpeggio sequence atop Wonderland's intoxicating, layered vocals before plunging into a drop driven by heavy kick drums and distorted synths.

It’s intense and unapologetic, expertly balancing chaos and control in a way that feels like classic Wonderland. There's a ferocity within “Get Started” that leans heavily into the trap roots she'd been teasing while still delivering a sound that feels fresh and uniquely her.

"Get Started" arrives alongside an official music video directed by Connor Pritchard, the award-winning co-creator and executive producer for Comedy Central's iconic series Workaholics.

  • You Can Now Place an Offer to Purchase Fyre Festival

Once pitched as an elite escape of music and luxury, Fyre Festival's notorious collapse in 2017 became a case study in viral hype gone wrong. Now, the ill-fated event that launched two documentaries in its wake is officially up for sale.

Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland, who served four years in prison for wire fraud related to the 2018 debacle on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma, has announced he intends to step away from the brand while inviting potential buyers to place bids on its full intellectual property package.

The announcement follows McFarland's attempts to mount a comeback in the Caribbean. Originally scheduled to take place in May 2025, Fyre Festival 2 was postponed indefinitely after contentious disputes with Mexican government officials in two separate municipalities, Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen.

While he claims to have since secured a new Caribbean-based destination willing to host Fyre Festival 2, McFarland says he's unwilling to risk another collapse. "For FYRE Festival 2 to succeed, it’s clear that I need to step back and allow a new team to move forward independently, bringing the vision to life on this incredible island," he said.

McFarland has now issued a new call to action: buy the brand and take the reins.

"We have decided the best way to accomplish our goals is to sell the FYRE Festival brand, including its trademarks, IP, digital assets, media reach, and cultural capital—to an operator that can fully realize its vision," McFarland said in a statement. "There is a clear path for operators and entrepreneurs with strong domain expertise to build FYRE into a global force in entertainment, media, fashion, CPG, and more."

Since relaunching the brand in 2023 after his release from prison, McFarland states Fyre has already been leveraged for developments in theater, streaming platforms and television.

While the name still carries a seedy reputation, it has continued to dominate headlines, leading McFarland to call it "one of the most powerful attention engines in the world." For prospective buyers, that attention could be a valuable asset, provided they've got the initiative to rewrite the brand's tumultuous legacy.

At the moment, the brand's official site is hosting an intake form where interested parties can place offers to purchase the Fyre Festival brand. The sale package includes the festival’s trademarks, marketing materials, domains, media assets, artist support lists and even the rights to its extensive documentary coverage.

Meanwhile, a separate but related Fyre-branded project is already underway under the leadership of media entrepreneur Shawn Rech. Rech, who recently acquired select Fyre IP, is launching a music streaming platform under the name, aiming to recast the brand into a fan-driven discovery tool for emerging artists.

Still, the main event remains up for grabs. And as McFarland steps away, Fyre's future ahead will be in the hands of the next bidder.

  • 60 Million People Used AI to "Create" Music in 2024

The line between "I made this" and "an algorithm made this while I watched TikTok" continues to blur as the latest IMS Business Report reveals a startling 10% of consumers used generative AI to create music in 2024.

AI-powered music apps attracted a combined total of 60 million users last year, according to the annual study of the electronic music industry by Mark Mulligan and MIDiA Research.

The data highlights an increase in the use of audio modification tools, with tempo adjustment emerging as the most requested feature. Others include creating songs sung in their voice and even swapping vocals from one artist to replace them with another.

This trend of democratization, which many argue bastardizes the art of music composition, builds upon a growing desire among music fans to participate in music creation rather than simply listen passively.

In spite of AI's doom and gloom, the electronic music industry grew 6% year-over-year in 2024, reaching a global valuation of $12.9 billion.

"Global music industry revenue grew again in 2024, though at a slower rate than in 2023 due to maturing streaming revenues and the post-Covid live resurgence lessening. Electronic music however, continued to increase its share of both revenues and culture," Mulligan said. "Driven by the rise of new genres like Afro house, a renaissance for genres like drum & bass and the rise of a new generation of fans, creators and scenes remaking electronic music in their own image, electronic music finds itself at the start of a brave new era of culture resonance."
