Whether you’re lacing up for your first jog, trying to reignite your running spark, or training for your 8th marathon, The Guardian Guide to Running will get you out the door. The guided runs feature an upbeat playlist of house, funk, and pop music combined with encouragement and easy-to-follow instructions, which gradually ramp up in difficulty as you work through each program. Choose your level (Beginner, Advanced, or Marathon) and get ready to hit the pavement with a new burst of chutzpah and gusto.
For Beginner Runners
The 8-week Beginner series makes it easy to start that running habit you’ve been putting off. The first week builds up to a few super short bursts of running punctuated by longer recovery walks, supportive guidance, and some post-run recommendations. By the end of week 8, you’ll be able to run steadily for 30 minutes without stopping.
For Intermediate & Advanced Runners
If you’re an experienced runner working on things like speed, pacing, and building a safe yet challenging workout program, this 4-run series will boost you to the next level. Even if you don’t need tips or coaching, this program offers a fresh approach to hour-long runs and can help you train for a 10K. With threshold runs, intervals, and hill reps, the Advanced program offers variety as well as the luxury of someone else pacing your runs for you.
For Marathon Runners
Training for a marathon or half-marathon? Try one of the workouts from this 6-week series on your long run days. The first week’s training gives you breaks to walk or slow your pace, but week 6 is nonstop running! You can start at week 1 to build up your endurance, or jump right in with a later session if you’re already at an advanced stage of your race training.
