  • Episode 149: Antholoween (3) CREEPSHOW
Antholoween continues! We're in the '80s now with the highly esteemed anthology film Creepshow, which couldn't have any more big names attached to it. Written by Stephen King, directed by George A. Romero, with Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, Adrienne Barbeau, and more, this horror hit emulating EC Comics is pretty much the cream of the crop. We talk each of the five shorts in detail along with the Tom Atkins-led wraparound story. Oh yeah, we're drinking Half Acre's Lagertown Octoberfest as well - though I spill half my beer during the show.

  • Episode 148: Antholoween (2) TALES FROM THE CRYPT
Our second anthology film in our trip through the years lands us in 1972 with Tales from the Crypt, the original adaptation of the EC Comics line of horror stories. This series of five shorts has some hits and some misses, and a curious moralistic view - while a lot of the characters are clearly awful, a couple don't seem to deserve their demise. We talk about each story in detail, including comparing the first short "And All Through the House" to the television series' episode.
For our Oktoberfest beer, we've got Erdinger's marzen on the show.

  • Episode 147: Antholoween (1) BLACK SABBATH
We begin our annual Halloween festivities with the first anthology in our Antholoween series, the 1963 film from Mario Bava Black Sabbath. This one's a slow burn for sure, with all of Bava's familiar tropes - ornate decorations, sexy ladies, unique photography, and ridiculously colorful lighting. Led by Boris Karloff, we're treated to three stories - "The Telephone," "The Wurdulak," and "The Drop of Water." Each of them is quite different from the other, giving Bava reign to try his hand at giallo, Hammer horror, and more supernatural fare. Join us as we talk all three stories.
Also in our Oktoberfest segment, we discuss Left Hand Brewing's Oktoberfest marzen.

  • Episode 146: IT: CHAPTER TWO
It's been two years since we covered the first film in the new IT reboot and It: Chapter Two takes us 27 years later after the kids have grown up and forgotten about Derry. But the evil is still festering, forcing them (and us) to come back to see the final showdown. Andy Muschietti's second film doesn't have the same appeal; it has some strong comedy especially from Bill Hader, but that comedy feels overused, losing a lot of the tension of the first film. This overlong movie also suffers from the early decision to break up the kids and adults - in Chapter Two, we're forced to revisit flashback scenes from the first film to put everything into context. On this episode we talk about the film's length, its homosexual subtext, Hader's performance particularly, and a whole lot more about why Chapter Two just doesn't match the first film's success.

  • Episode 145: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART IV: THE FINAL CHAPTER
We've already done Friday the 13th Parts 1-3 over at the Jay MovieTalk podcast, so we thought for our early Friday the 13th episode we'd go right to the next - and FINAL - Friday the 13th - Part IV: The Final Chapter. This is where we say goodbye to Jason, who does all of the things he normally does except with three different, and disconnected, groups of people. We talk about that disconnect, Corey Feldman, the setup for a Tommy Jarvis-led slasher, the lengthy opening sequences in this film, and a whole lot more. We also have Saranac's Hopskeller on this show.

  • Episode 144: SHE'S ALL THAT

Yeah, She's All That might seem  like a weird pick for a B&BR episode. But we're a weird podcast, and  we enjoy a wide variety of films. That includes '90s teen romantic  comedies, of course (and we're still itching to do that Mean Girls episode).  Though you might be shrugging your shoulders, looking to skip this  episode, I'd say it's one of our best - we have a ton of fun mocking the  themes in the film, commenting on how Rachel Leigh Cook is definitely  not ugly (and pitting her against '90s-era Jennifer Love Hewitt), and  espousing our love for Matthew Lillard. Have a listen, and let us know  if you like this excursion away from drab and dreary. Oh yeah, and we  have Monument Brewing's 51 Rye on this show.

  • Episode 143: DJANGO THE BASTARD
Also known as The Stranger's Gundown when released with its English dub, Django the Bastard is a 1969 spaghetti western that is sometimes credited as being an important precursor of the supernatural element in spaghetti westerns. However, we mostly see this as a ripoff of the Man with No Name series, including Anthony Steffen trying very hard to be both Clint Eastwood and Franco Nero at the same time. We talk about the lack of Gothic elements that are supposedly in this one, the very lengthy and meandering storyline, and the pretty cool plot element of putting people's crosses up in town before they die. We're also talking Dogfish Head's Slightly Mighty Lo-Cal IPA.
And hey, if you'd like to donate us some beer, send us an email at [email protected] and we'll cover it on the show.

  • Episode 142: SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME
We're taking a look at the second film in the web-slinging Spider-Man series from Marvel. Here Peter Parker travels to Europe and we are loving the washed-out, Eurocinema colors and the risks that have been taken with the character. We also talk about Jake Gyllenhaal's charisma, the teenage romance antics, Mysterio as a villain, the heavy CGI, and a whole lot more.

  • Episode 141: CHILD'S PLAY (1988)
We were unable to get out to see the new Child's Play film, but we had always wanted to do the original first anyway. So we sat down to devote an hour to America's favorite murderous doll, Chucky, taking a look at the first film in the franchise. No Aubrey Plaza here, but we still remark on all of the great actors in this (Chris Sarandon, Brad Dourif, and his giant-dicked mural) as well as remarking on the kills, the relatively popcorn-esque nature of the film, and comparing this movie to... Candyman! We have a lot of fun on this packed show.

  • Episode 140: The Scream Marathon (4) SCREAM 4
We're back to finish off our Scream Marathon with Scream 4, basically a type of meta reboot in the series. Ryne had only seen this film once so it was interesting to revisit it with fresh eyes. We talk about the new killers, the unique twists, Wes Craven's new references, the return of Kevin Williamson, Gale's normal hair, that other Culkin kid, and more!
We do have to apologize for a couple of issues with this episode. You'll notice the quality is not the best this time - we had some major issues with recording in a noisier room and we did what we could to mitigate that. Also, our recording crashed while saving and we lost some chunks of our conversation towards the latter half, which is why you might notice things get a little choppy or unfinished here and there. Regardless, there wasn't much we could do, and we hope you'll be able to power through. We're making some changes to our recordings and hoping to get a little better quality in the future.
