Blood and Black Rum Podcast - A Cult Film / Horror Podcast

We check out DEMOLITION MAN, the 1993 film starring Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone that actually accurately depicts the future! We talk societal implications of a government that monitors all human choice, the comedic continuity within the film, the action scenes, and the wooden acting from Sandra Bullock.

Approximate timeline

0:00-11:00 Introduction

11:00-22:00 Beer talk (Michelob Ultra)

22:00-end Demolition Man

We've covered the original Ghost in the Shell anime, so it's only fair that we cover the new 2017 adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. We talk briefly about whitewashing, how this live-action film measures up to the original, the huge amount of exposition forced onto the viewer, and how ScarJo looks in a body suit; plus, we discuss our new local brewery, Stump City Brewing.

Approximate timeline

Intro: 0:00-10:00 Beer talk: 10-00:18:00 Ghost in the Shell: 18:00-end

We cover another giallo on the Blood and Black Rum Podcast - or at least a giallo/Gothic hybrid. This film has it all - redheads, constantly naked women, a drafty castle, ghosts, double- and triple-crossings, and a female-on-female murder! The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave is a crazy film, but it's not perfect, and our two hosts disagree on a number of matters, making this episode an interesting listen.

Approximate timeline

0:00-12:00 - Intro

12:00-20:00 - Beer talk

20:00-end - The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave

We continue our annual Leprechaun viewings for St. Patrick's Day with Leprechaun 2! This film is much better than the first, but it also feels like an adult Are You Afraid of the Dark? episode - we discuss how that's both good and bad. We also talk Warwick Davis, Michael McDonald, Guinness' new porters, and Catholic Lenten rules for St. Patrick's Day!

Approximate timeline

Intro: 0:00-14:00

Beer talk: 14:00-25:00

Leprechaun 2: 15:00 - 1:07:00

'90s music from the film: 1:07:00 - end

Due to the passing of Bill Paxton, we decided to postpone our next selected movie in order to do a tribute to the man with TWISTER! This film is best viewed through a nostalgia lens - while it doesn't hold up incredibly well, it's a fun movie for all the wrong reasons. Bad CGI, poor scripting, and unintentionally hilarious moments abound in this disaster flick co-written by Michael Crichton, and we break it down in detail - along with coverage of Saratoga Beer Fest!

Blood and Black Rum Podcast returns to giallo films with What Have You Done to Solange?, a film about graphic sexual violence and abortion that is equally intriguing and confusing. We talk about the lack of Solange throughout most of the film, the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, and the film's problematic issues with its theme. We also talk Harpoon Brewery's spring beer pack, films we're covering in the future, and male birth control!

It's the series finale of the Death Wish Series! We're talking Death Wish V: The Face of Death, a sad conclusion to the franchise that finds Charles Bronson looking old, feeble, and defeated. The film itself is a mess, probably the worst of the series with lackluster action sequences and some really stupid ideas like a remote control soccer ball and an Irish mafioso with Italian henchmen. Still, we have fun talking about the ridiculous scenarios and Sam Adams' new recipe for Rebel IPA.

In the fourth installment of our Death Wish Series, we take on the incredibly 80s-set Death Wish 4: The Crackdown - if the cocaine doesn't define it, then the roller rinks and arcades will. This is, per Ryne, a "stupid" film, but it's easy to see why it's also quite enjoyable: ridiculous action scenes make up about 70% of the film and it has the feel of a video game where Paul Kersey continually gets mission objectives from his boss.

We also talk about Genesee's Bock Beer, the use of rape within the Death Wish series, the real death wish being a relationship with Paul Kersey, and Danny Trejo's appearance in the film!

Approximate timeline

0:00-16:00 Introduction

16:00 - 23:00 Beer talk

23:00-end Death Wish 4: The Crackdown

In this episode, we continue our Death Wish series with Death Wish 3. This sequel takes things even less seriously than before, to the point where we question if this is meant to be a tongue-in-cheek action film. We discuss the multiple car explosions, the main villain's ridiculous hair, the alt-right stance on vigilantism, and Brown's Chasing Suns Double IPA!

Approximate timeline

15:00-23:00 Beer talk

23:00-end Death Wish 3
