Blood and Black Rum Podcast - A Cult Film / Horror Podcast

In our latest episode, we fawn over Chris Evans as Captain America in Captain America: Civil War. Or maybe that's just Ryne - we also discuss whether Captain America or Iron Man is right, Paul Rudd's perfection as Ant-Man, and the new Spider Man. Oh, and we do compare the film to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice...

Blood and Black Rum Podcast delivers a fatality to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, the hilariously bad 1997 film based on the video game franchise. We try out a new style in the podcast as well, with an introduction, interludes, and segments! This is an episode to remember - even if we want to forget the film itself.

Blood and Black Rum Podcast battles existentialism, the difference between humanity and cyborgs, and robotic boobs in their discussion of Ghost in the Shell, the anime from 1995. Also on topic: Saranac beer, the asianification of ScarJo in the GitS live-action film, and what anime might make good live-action adaptations. Enjoi!

Don't worry - the clickbaity title is just a joke. This time, Ryne and Martin take on The Warriors from 1979. Martin had seen this cult classic before, but it was Ryne's first experience. There are two differing opinions here; one, that The Warriors is a pretty great film, and the other that the heightened expectations lead to disappointment. Come out to playy-ayy.

Turn your volume down, because Blood and Black Rum Podcast gets intense about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! There's talk about the convoluted nature of the plot, the flaws of the film, and lots of nerdy talk. Make sure you listen to this podcast that is just about the same length as the film!

We talk Mad Max: Fury Road, including our appreciation of its non-linear approach to the action film, its ridiculous set pieces, and its color scheme and soundtrack. We also manage to talk about beer, a quick discussion on Batman vs. Superman, and theater experiences.

The Blood and Black Rum crew tests their patience again, this time with Leprechaun for St. Patrick's Day! Neither of us are a fan of the film, but we do love some Warwick Davis action. Unfortunately, Leprechaun represents the worst of cult horror - not only bad, but bland as well. Still, we talk about the portrayal of its mentally retarded character and Jennifer Aniston's poor acting, along with Warwick Davis' approval of a terrible script from Mark Jones.

Blood and Black Rum Podcast moves from the original My Bloody Valentine to My Bloody Valentine 3D, a far inferior example of the slasher genre that succumbs to all of the generic qualities that have made many contemporary horror films so awful. We both hated MBV 3D, but at least we had some cold brews to enjoy with it.

Ryne and Martin watch My Bloody Valentine (the original 1981 slasher) and talk Schlitz and Moosehead beers, the POV shots and legend of Harry Warden, and censorship. We tallied up the amount of times we noticed a Canadian accent, too.
