  • Of All the Towns in the World: The Casablanca Dismemberer

Bodies were turning up in bags and boxes across Casablanca. The police swore it wasn’t a serial killer.

Casablanca, 2002. Black plastic bags start appearing across Morocco’s biggest city, each holding part of a body. Most of the dead have no name, no missing-persons report, and no fingerprints on file. The newspapers smell a serial killer. The chief of police goes on the record: the murders have nothing to do with one another.

Then, at dawn on the eve of Eid al-Adha, a young man steps out of a taxi in Maârif and leaves two cardboard boxes on the pavement. How do you name the dead when someone has taken their faces? And how many killers were working the streets of Casablanca?

In episode two of Blood & Mint Tea: True Crime from Morocco, we follow the hunt for the Casablanca Dismemberer, from the first black bag to the last cardboard box.

  • The Cask of Marrakesh: Morocco's First Serial Killer

Marrakesh, 1906. Thirty-six young women have disappeared from every corner of the city. The trail eventually leads to the shop of a respected, elderly cobbler and letter writer named Hadj Mohammed Mesfewi.

His punishment came out of Morocco's oldest laws: sealed alive inside a wall in the heart of Marrakesh, in  Jemaa el-Fna, before thousands. How did he get away with it for so long? Why did the city choose the wall? Which parts of the story are fact, and which are fiction?

In the series premiere of Blood & Mint Tea: True Crime from Morocco, we follow Morocco's first documented serial killer throughout our home city of Marrakesh, from his shop to his final resting place, inside the walls of the medina.
