In addition to the immense personal tragedy people experience, it’s a problem with vast health, economic, and social consequences. To address these consequences, Evermore is accelerating lasting societal change using data and science to drive policy and practice advancements that are grounded by the lived experiences of individuals and families. We are seeking cultural transformation.

This week, we sit down with Christine from She Climbs Mountains non-profit.

She Climbs Mountains is a non-profit organization based in the Twin Cities serving adult women and girls ages 8-18 (Girls Rise Up) who have experienced mother loss through death at any age.

Through monthly support groups, informal gatherings, workshops, and formal events for women, and a mentor program in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities and therapeutic social gatherings and events for girls, the organization is committed to encouraging daughters to explore the myriad of emotions and experiences that accompany the loss of a mother.

Our community encourages women and girls to grieve openly, share their stories, ask questions, nurture themselves and each other, examine the loss of their mothers, and seek joy and gratitude in a secure environment with the goal of creating a safe, supportive, and loving sisterhood.

We kick off Season 2 with the anticipation of the 3 year anniversary of my husband's death. December sucks around here. Explaining death anniversaries is so much more complex than simply missing your person a little extra. It's reliving the darkest days in real time. Maybe there is no "cheering up" or "distracting", but just simply getting through them. We know there is no fixing it, but it truly does get easier to carry the weight of this grief with time. I am focusing on remembering the good and the happiness before he died, and hoping to just get through the dark days after.

Personally, I know I could have been a better support person to Josh regarding the loss of his mom if I had this insight.
