Do we recognize the overwhelming need we have to be forgiven by Jesus and are we willing to see others through his eyes?

God longs for a church where prodigal sons can come home, and people inside the church embrace them.

Some of us are in great pain and have enormous guilt from what we’ve done. We need to come home to the father.

In this story, Jesus compares those who live by “performance-based Christianity,” where we are in a wage-based relationship with God and “grace-based Christianity,” where we are in a relationship with God based solely on trust. Jesus shows how easy it is for performance-based Christians to become resentful of grace-based Christianity.

Christians can be prone to over-spiritualizing, masking problems with language that sounds spiritual, avoiding realities and being too passive in the face of difficulty. If this dishonest manager had the courage to face his problem head-on by relying on the character and the generosity of his master, how much more can we face anything, confident that our gracious and merciful God can be trusted?

Like both the rich man and Lazarus, just moments after we die we will be wide awake; we will be full of either tremendous gratitude or enormous regret; and we will be able to reflect back on our life here on earth with great clarity. God sent his only Son so no one would have to go to Hell, and it’s up to us to make sure we don’t miss the opportunity to get right with God while we are on this side of eternity.

Every time we make a decision, we choose to either walk down a path of life or a path of death. There is a way that leads to life, joy, freedom and purity.

They choose to invest in the church, help others grow, and cultivate humility.
