Jo Zayner is a prominent biohacker, artist and entrepreneur who has made significant contributions to the field of do-it-yourself (DIY) biology.

Jo is best known for the work done in gene editing, and democratizing access to biotechnology. With a history of programming, a BA in plant biology and a Ph.D in biophysics from the University of Chicago, Jo also earned a Masters in Science, specializing in cell and molecular biology, prior to receiving a Ph.D. Jo was also previously involved with NASA’s biology research centre, where they helped design potential Martian colony habitat designs.

Zayner is now the founder and CEO of The ODIN, a company that produces affordable kits for DIY genetic engineering. Jo has also been involved in a number of high-profile biohacking projects, including the creation of fluorescent beer and the insertion of a CRISPR-edited gene into their own body to enhance muscle growth. Zayner is a popular speaker and advocate for DIY biology, and has been featured in numerous media outlets including The New York Times, Wired, and Forbes. David Ishee is a dog breeder and biohacker from Mississippi whose goal is to make genetic engineering accessible to everyone. He learned genetic engineering to cure genetic diseases in dogs and be a better dog breeder. He's also working to share the knowledge and skills he'd acquired to teach people how to use these technologies on a budget, in a small space, and without a degree.

Ishee, a member of what’s called the “biohacker” movement, says he is hoping to use inexpensive new gene-editing techniques to modify the genes of Dalmatians. By repairing a single DNA letter in their genomes, Ishee believes, he can rid them of an inherited disease, hyperuricemia, that's almost as closely associated with the breed as their white coats and black spots.

David has gained a lot of media attention from his recent appearance in the Netflix documentary - "Unnatural Selection", where he shares his journey in attempting to create green fluorescent mastiff puppies by adding Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)-expressing E. coli to dog sperm. He has received mixed responses from such a controversial take on gene editing.

Professor Donald Hoffman is an American cognitive psychologist and popular science author. He is a professor in the Department of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, with joint appointments in the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science, and the School of Computer Science.

Hoffman studies consciousness, visual perception and evolutionary psychology using mathematical models and psychophysical experiments. He is an author to over 4 books (see below), with the latest arguing the case against reality. His 2015 TED Talk, "Do we see reality as it is?" argues that our perceptions have evolved to hide reality from us.

Abraham "Avi" Loeb is a theoretical physicist who works on astrophysics and cosmology. Loeb is the Frank B. Baird Jr. Professor of Science at Harvard University. He had been the longest serving chair of Harvard's Department of Astronomy (2011–2020), founding director of Harvard's Black Hole Initiative, and director of the Institute for Theory and Computation within the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

In June 2020, Loeb was sworn in as a member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) at the White House. In December 2012, Time magazine selected Loeb as one of the 25 most influential people in space.

In 2018, he attracted media attention for suggesting that alien space craft may be in the Solar System, using the anomalous behavior of ʻOumuamua as an example. In 2019, and together with his Harvard undergraduate student, Amir Siraj, Loeb reported discovering a meteor that potentially originated outside the Solar System.

Stoicism has been a common thread though some of history’s great leaders. It has been practiced by Kings, presidents, artists, writers and entrepreneurs. Marcus Aurelius, Frederick the Great, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt —just to name a few—were all influenced by Stoic philosophy.
