The Sacramento County Youth Commission consists of fifteen youth appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to be a voice for youth in local government. Commissioner​s serve three-year terms and must attend a Sacramento County middle or senior high school to be eligible. Commission meetings are monthly. Commissioners also represent the Commission at important community events, forums and committees.

The Community Planning Advisory Councils were created in the unincorporated County to facilitate and encourage direct citizen participation early in the planning process when it is easier for project proponents and decision-makers to respond to public concerns. The primary purpose of the CPAC is to gather community response to proposed projects. The projects reviewed range from broad policy questions that apply countywide, to small development projects of local interest. Entitlements reviewed include General Plan and Zoning Code amendments to plans, zoning matters and use permits.

The Zoning Administrator takes final action on minor use permits and variances.  Zoning Administrator actions can be appealed to the Board of Zoning Appeals.

This committee takes final action on parcel maps (4 parcels or less) that do not require hearings at the Community Planning Advisory Council (CPAC), or the County Planning Commission. Their actions can be appealed to the County Planning Commission.

Regional San is overseen by a Board of Directors consisting of the five Sacramento County Supervisors, five city councilmembers from the City of Sacramento, two councilmembers from the City of Elk Grove, and single representatives from Yolo County and the cities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, Rancho Cordova and West Sacramento.

The First 5 Sacramento Commission is comprised of 14 members that have been appointed by the County Board of Supervisors because of their experience in early childhood health and development.

As a funding agency, the Commission makes strategic investments based on best practices and a community driven plan. Investments are made into programs that meet the highest needs of children and families in Sacramento County.
