Susie Goodall has just announced DHL as her sponsors for the 2018 Golden Globe Race. Well done, DHL – an excellent decision. Boat Radio is following Susie’s progress as she prepares for what is arguably the toughest sporting challenge on Earth. We spoke to her a couple of weeks ago as part of the hugely successful Boat Radio LIVE – a six-hour show broadcast from the deck of Bonnie Lass, a classic fishing boat at Port de Sóller in northern Mallorca.
Rachel Johnson from the National Safe Boating Council is in the studio. Plus, Richard Daybill talks clean, green boating and Rock Underwood explains his new invention: the cleat-less dock.
Sarah O'Kelly chats to Nick Stickler, president of Boston Whaler, and John and Peter Stamas, the father and son team behind Stamas Yachts.
Chris DiCroce’s first novel, Burning Man, begins in Nashville but it's almost inevitable that central character, Dash Nelson, should end up on a boat and in danger.
It is exactly a year since we first spoke to Chris and his wife, Melody. They were the first Boat Radio interviewees, and the resulting recording was used as our demo track. Chris is a singer-songwriter turned writer and novelist. Melody is a copy editor and proof reader. Along with dog, Jett, they live aboard Vacilando – a 1984 Cal 35.
There is some great music at the end of this interview. Chris DiCroce at his best.
In the North of England, plans are being made to follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus, tracing the route of his third voyage, in a new expedition called Survival: A Voyage of Discovery and Conservation.
What is it? What are the symptoms? How do you avoid it?
Matt Rutherford is back! This week, hear how he was robbed while spectacularly stoned in Amsterdam and delusional while sailing the English Channel at night. He also lifts the lid on charter scams and spills the beans about ‘plastic fantastic’ production boats, before tearing into politicians about the politicization of climate change.
Finding fresh food and water, buying a suitable anchor and, above all, always waiting for the right weather… Just three aspects of life in The Bahamas to which you will have to give serious thought if you’re planning to cruise down there. Carolyn Shearlock and husband Dave have lived aboard for many years, beginning in the Sea of Cortez. Carolyn’s website – The Boat Galley – is a treasure trove of useful information for all sailors.
