Qiddist Ashé is a medicine woman and female health educator who holds space for transformation as we cultivate the inner and outer resources we need to live fully in our power. She is the founder and creatrix of The Womb Room, an online community for female health & spiritual sovereignty. Informed by her maternal lineage of Ethiopian midwives and her own work in authentic midwifery, functional health, herbalism, somatics, and spiritual sovereignty, Qiddist merges the science and the spirit of female health, orienting to all the ways we can reclaim agency and responsibility for our bodies and our lives. Qiddist’s work is rooted in “womb to tomb” midwifery, and her experience of embodiment integrates all that we carry in our wombs beyond our own lives, and how these stories might carry the medicine we need.
In this conversation, we get into:
grieving what we didn't have and didn't even know we lost
her first experiences of grieving openly and the containers, spaces and rituals that guided her to her own expansion
the meaning of ritual as space set aside for feeling
the nourishment of not trying to fix our grief
her recent experience in Ethiopia and witnessing the ritualized grieving customs of her family there
the relationship between disconnection from our bodies and the over dependence on external direction and validation
the matriarchy in the earth, and the earth as our first mother
the grief of the systems that disconnect us from a deep reverence for life
the truth of the question, "what if this (grief) is for me?"In our conversation, she mentions the book Of Water and the Spirit by Malidoma Patrice Some and I mentioned the book The Smell of Rain on Dust: Grief and Praise, by Martín Prechtel.
