This week’s snowfall in the Treasure Valley means only one thing: ski season is here. Idaho Matters talked with Tamarack Resort’s President Jon Reveal and Bogus Basin’s General Manager Brad Wilson about the season so far.

First, the snow. It’s been fantastic. Both mountains were able to open early this year on Thanksgiving. “Thanksgiving [and] early December will be the norm now,” Wilson said, speaking to the future of early-opens, thanks to snowmaking capabilities. 

Both mountains have received around 50 inches of snow, but Reveal was sure to note that they “picked up 51 inches of snow rather than 47 [inches]” at Bogus.

Friendly competition aside, the mountains shared resources to get their new lifts up and running this summer.

Great snow and new infrastructure means popularity and congestion are only increasing. Bogus had to turn folks away this weekend, due to a lack of parking. Shuttles and incentives to get people to ski mid-week are ideas resorts have to consider.
