n Army lieutenant colonel who trained future officers will receive a reprimand but serve no jail time for spying on a changing room with a hidden camera at a store that caters to teenagers and young adults.
Army Lt. Col. Jacob J. Sweatland served as chair of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA when he was arrested for hiding a camera in a dressing room in a PacSun clothing store that was discovered by a teenage girl.
Military legal experts say the case is the latest example of the military justice system letting senior officers off with a slap on the wrist for serious sex-related offenses. Though the store was off-base, the local prosecutor stepped aside from the case in order to let the Army prosecute Sweatland. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office called the offenses “outrageous and indefensible invasion of privacy.”
A military judge sentenced Sweatland to be reprimanded at a Jan. 22 special court-martial at Fort Knox, Kentucky as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, said Ian Ives, a spokesman for U.S. Army Cadet Command

January 24, 2024 Trump Says Mentally Ill People Shipped To The United States
WashingtonCNN —
On at least three occasions over the last two months, former President Donald Trump has claimed that the leaders of unnamed South American countries are deliberately emptying their “insane asylums” and “mental institutions” to send the patients to the United States as migrants.
In each version of the dramatic story, Trump has claimed he recently read about a doctor at a South American mental institution who said he used to be busy but now has no work to do because all of his patients have been released into the US.
In a mid-April speech to the National Rifle Association, Trump said: “I read a story not long ago where a man who takes care of a large segment of people in a mental institution in a South American country, a doctor, sounded like a great man actually – he said he no longer has anything to do. He used to work 24-hour days. He said, ‘All of our patients have been released into the United States of America.’”
Trump added more color to the story in a Thursday campaign speech in New Hampshire: “There was a story recently about a psychologist. Or psychiatrist. But a psychologist. Who worked in mental wards in South America. And he said, ‘I worked 24…’ – a good man – he worked 24 hours a day taking care of very mentally ill people. And he was sitting there reading a newspaper and they asked him, what – what’s he doing? He said, ‘I have no more work. The people have all been let go into the United States.’ Can you believe? This is what we’re doing.”
But Trump has given listeners no reason to believe him on this.
HOWEVER, there is a report that late Cuban despot Fidel Castro included mental health patients in the Mariel boatlift of 1980 (they made up a small percentage of the people involved in the boatlift), but that was 43 years ago; Trump’s stories have all been present-tense claims about events purportedly happening during Biden’s presidency.

January 10, 2024 Abraham Lincoln Challenged A Rival To A Duel Using A Sword on Blood Island
Shields challenged Lincoln to a duel. Lincoln responded with a final call for peace, writing that he would admit to being the author of the original newspaper letter and would apologize if Shields would retract his earlier letters and rewrite them in a more polite manner. If this request was not met, he would fight the duel. As the person being challenged, Lincoln got to set the rules. Among other things, there was to be a line between the two of them, and crossing over this line would result in death. The duel was to be fought in Missouri, as dueling was still legal there, and the weapons would be broadswords.
Lincoln and Shields met for their duel on “Bloody Island,” a sandbar in the Mississippi River right outside of Alton. To demonstrate his advantage in height and reach, Lincoln swung his sword over his head and chopped down a high tree branch.

Yesterday afternoon Arlington County Police Department went to a call for possible gunshots where it turned out the fella in the home had discharged a flare gun 30 to 40 times… The suspect then barricaded themselves inside and around 8:30pm when police tried to issue a search warrant he exploded the whole damn house. Huge fireball, was felt all over DC.
Three officers reported minor injuries and there were no transports to the hospital related to this incident. The investigation is ongoing. Not clear if the guy survived.
MARINE PLEADS GUILTY TO FIREBOMBING PP WHILE ON ACTIVE DUTY
A former Marine pleaded guilty to a 2022 firebombing attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic in California.
Chance Brannon, 24, is one of three men charged in the Molotov cocktail attack which occurred while Brannon was an active-duty Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton.
No one was hurt in the incident but the front entrance had some burn damage, and the clinic had to reschedule about 30 appointments. He had also discussed other attacks along with starting a race war, plus a rifle with a Cyrillic message referring to death and a racial slur, as well as a thumb drive with a recording of the Christchurch, New Zealand, white supremacist mass shooting.
Boyyyyyy I bet the folks in his unit could share some stories about him.
