  • Shame free eating
During the holidays people tend to think one of two ways about eating:
    • Either we are worried about eating healthy and not getting it wrong - focused on the weight we might gain or the macros we might get wrong.
    • Or we give up taking care of our bodies altogether - we overindulge and throw in the towel because it’s the holidays and the end of the year.
Neither is a good option. Both create shame in us and tend to cause inadvertent shame in others around us.

How do we stop eating like this?

Here’s the secret - it’s not about what you’re eating. It’s about how you’re thinking.

  • Parenting Between Now and Not Yet - Habits of the Household #12
Here we are, on a normal day, parenting our children under the cosmic tension of the painful and glorious truth that our world is broken and God is making all things new through Jesus.

Continuing a series on the book Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Early, Tyler and Virginia reflect on the difficult need to parent with our eyes toward eternity, practical ways to help you think of the future, and work backward to determine your habits for today, and the great news that it isn't the success of our parenting, but the grace of Jesus that ultimately forms our kids.

  • Bedtime Graces - Habits of the Household #11
At the end of the day, we are often at the end of what we have to give. That doesn't bode well for handling bedtime. Yet, coming to the end of ourselves isn’t a sign of failure, it’s the beginning of grace.

Continuing a series on the book Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Early, Tyler and Virginia examine how the tension of failure and grace drives us to recognize our need for God to parent us before we parent our children, what bedtime liturgies teach our kids, and how short simple prayers help us love our kids as God does even when we aren't feeling love toward them.

  • Conversations with Kids - Habits of the Household #10
Conversation is a sacred ritual. It is the rhythm of the household that turns family into friends and friends into family. It is the learned art of friendship.

Continuing a series on the book Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Early, Tyler and Virginia discuss the difference between talking to a child as a parent and having a conversation with your child as a peer, the power of conversations to heal trauma, and the importance of modeling vulnerability through conversation for your children.

  • Playing as Gospel Work - Habits of the Household #9
In the story of God, we were made for another world - a world of unfettered joy. That is the future for every believer. Through work, rest, and play we are helping our family imagine the future in ways it will be.

Continuing a series on the book Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Early, Tyler and Virginia talk about the amount of imagination required to believe that there is more to reality than we naturally and normally see, how God is more childlike than adults in our broken world are, and rest as the starting place for work.
