WHERE TO LAND - Hal Hartley's NEWEST Feature Film
a Kickstarter campaign
DEADLINE: 4 January 2020
From the press release:
On 5 December 2019, American filmmaker Hal Hartley launched his sixth Kickstarter crowdsourcing campaign since 2011 to raise $300,000 in 30 days to produce his newest feature film, Where To Land.
Hal Hartley
Popularly identified with American Independent filmmaking since the early 1990s, Hartley has been making critically esteemed and award-winning works ever since. He has won awards at Sundance (1991), Tokyo (1994), Cannes (1998), Berlin (2015) and a lifetime achievement award at Houston (2019). Retrospectives of his work have been presented all over the world.
Where To Land
Joseph Fulton, a well-regarded fifty-eight year-old director of romantic comedies, wants to become assistant groundskeeper at a local cemetery. He wants to work outdoors and be close to nature. Meanwhile, he thinks it’s important to have his last will and testament drawn up. But his highly dramatic actress girlfriend thinks he must be dying and that he is just too brave to tell anyone. The rumor spreads and soon everyone he knows—and some he doesn’t—are crowded in to his small apartment to say their last farewells.
Where to Land will feature some of the actors most associated with Hartley’s films: Parker Posey, Bill Sage, Robert Burke, Tatiana Abracos and Elina Löwensohn. Where To Land will also introduce a new generation of performers, as it is a story about a successful and semi-retired director of romantic comedies who wants nothing more than a part-time job as assistant gardener in a local cemetery, but who is being enticed back into show business by a few younger, aspiring professionals, one of whom is his girlfriend.
