What’s in a name?
Her trailblazer of a distant cousin forged a solitary, singular path during and after WWII. Unassuming and somewhat clueless, Christine eventually finds she has to do pretty much the same. A teen fully expecting her Midwestern life would be drab and ho-hum, she meets in Germany an elderly man who offered her a ride – and insight into a legacy she was going to rely on throughout her entire life.

Sarah, Meredith, Kim and Lia get together to recap Season Three during this episode of Book Interrupted. The conversation starts with a challenge: Can the Book Interrupted Crew even remember what books were part of Season Three?
In addition to talking about Season Three, the girls talk about Season Four, Five and Six! Many ideas are thrown out about what the themes of coming seasons should be. And the women share their predictions around which Season Four book they think they’ll like the most (and least). Of course, Sarah brings up Twilight for a change. Sarah, Meredith and Kim hold the final discussion on Kim’s Season Three book pick: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The girls discuss the complexity of being human and how multifaceted people and relationships are. As usual, the conversation veers off topic and the group considers the origins of the middle finger. Returning to the book, the discussion covers friendship, trials and tribulations, the moral of the story (or lack there of), hope and what exactly does “absolutely true” really mean? Finally, the girls share whether they would recommend the book or not.
This book is critically acclaimed and has appeared on the annual list of frequently challenged books since 2008. It became the most frequently challenged book from 2010 – 2019. Most of the controversy is based in how the book describes alcoholism, poverty, bullying, violence, and sexuality.
