  • SPOTLIGHT Gary Grossman: Executive Actions
I have a reason to want them eliminated from the race. As the book starts we hear to the voice the assassin who is planning his strategy, taking time to he thought eliminate any evidence that he was present and then hopefully pulling the fated shot that would take out Democratic candidate and Congressman Teddy Lodge. But, the speech is ready, the primary is about to occur but during a special parade where he and his wife are exposed to the public, the killer aims, has the candidate in sight but something happens and can never be reversed as instead of Lodge the bullet kills his wife, Jenny. Lodge is distraught, will not deal with the public and the media is hounding him for statements. But, as he is dealing with her death and the failed assassination, we hear the killer dealing with leaving no trace, flirting with a hotel maid as she switches gears from one person to another thinking that he has everyone fooled. President Morgan Taylor is worried about the primary wanting another term but this murder might throw the weight in Lodge’s direction. Hearing the voices of the FBI and those in charge of the case we learn that not everything this killer did was sanitized and that some forensic evidence was left but will it be enough to identify him?

  • NO SURRENDER
No Surrender: Jon Land and Patrick Bisher

Pretend you are in a dark place where there is no light, no shadows or any chance that you can see in front of you or in any direction. Pretend that your entire world is filled with this darkness and there is no way out. You feel despair, alone, and tortured by the memories that linger in your heart and mind and wonder whether you will ever see the sun rise, the beauty of the moon shining in the sky or will you leave yourself open to self=pity, recriminations, regrets and defeat? Adversity we all encounter it at one time in our lives but it is what we do to overcome adversity, toss aside those obstacles, breakdown the walls that confine us that will bring back the light, hope and lift the anguish and the pain. Patrick Bisher lived his life in the darkness for many years when he was told at the age of nine that he might never walk again. Flashing back in the prologue to September of 2011 he relates what happens when he was serving our country. A message from an Army Special Forces ODA team came just after his team had gotten back from a mission that lasted 18 hours. A huge enemy convoy was chasing this team and their evasive maneuvers were failing. The author describes the mission and the tragic ending in vivid details as he lost three of his closest friends that day and their names and their faces remain imprinted in his mind till this day. But, let’s flashback to the beginning and get to know Patrick as a child and understand where the darkness arrived and what he decided to do to fight for the sunlight and live his life his way with hope, fight and never as the title states: NO SURRENDER!

A penny in this case is a rare and special one-cent piece that gets handed from person to person, some famous, notorious, saints, drunk, bikers, ordinary people and even some who go to church. I bet you don’t know that the last penny that is the last one comprised of 95 percent copper and the final one ever minted was born on October 22, 1982. • Title: The True Story of One Family’s Daring Escape to Freedom. The author is: J
How do you live your life knowing that any day you might lose the little bit of freedom that you have been afforded? Some luxuries are so appreciated and many take them for granted but Kati and Adolph Egett did not. What happens when you feel the walls around you closing in and you realize that they have become your own form of prison as you wish for more for your two small children but have yet to figure out how? Looking around her and understanding that many of the families in Hungry have left hoping to find their freedom in other countries, Kati began to realize that it was time for them to leave too. Curfews were in place, food rationing, and other restrictions would make it even more difficult for them to remain there and a plan had to be devised to bring them safely to freedom. Visiting family members the next day brought them some comfort but not sharing their thoughts and realizing the dangers in telling them they wanted to leave helped to keep them all in check and their voices about leaving silent. But, leaving the next morning and realizing their daughter, Judit’s blanket was left behind what happens when Adolph learns that they left without any notice does not anger him but allows him the luxury of thinking maybe they need to follow suit.
How do you tell you parents that you are leaving and might never see them again? What choice do you have when it’s your children’s safety and life that you are willing to sacrifice it all for? The author will explain her journey to freedom to your host Fran Lewis

  • spotlight: A FINE IMITATION
    A Fine Imitation
    By
    Amber Brock

Though Vera has beauty, pedigree, and a penthouse at the Angelus—the most coveted address on Park Avenue—she is living in quiet desperation. Amid the sparkling whirl of Prohibition-era Manhattan, she sustains her place at the top of the city’s pecking order through an unbroken loop of empty socializing and rigid adherence to propriety, which includes never wondering aloud why she waits nightly in her cavernous apartment for a husband who seldom comes home.

Then Emil Hallan arrives at the Angelus to paint a mural above its glittering subterranean pool. The handsome French artist shrouds his work, and himself, in secrecy, piquing Vera’s curiosity and sparking feelings in her that soon become impossible to ignore. Is he the man he claims to be? Vera can’t suppress her suspicions, for she too knows a little something about keeping secrets. After all, she secured her place in society by closely guarding her own from her time at Vassar, when her friendship with the bold, artistically gifted Bea Stillman brought her to the brink of catastrophe and social exile.

When the dangerous mysteries of Emil’s past come to light, Vera faces an impossible choice: cling to her familiar world of privilege or risk everything for the enigmatic man who has taken her heart, and may break it. Dazzling and compulsively readable, A Fine Imitation explores what happens when we realize that the lives we’ve been born to lead are not the lives that will make us happy.
