  • A Trip Around the World

As usual, we have a lot of nostalgia and history to go over today. Nellie Bly is born this week in 1864. This journalist, industrialist, and inventor isn't well known but she made her impact on history and has an incredible story. William Randolph Hearst is also born this week in history! Does that name sound familiar? Think Citizen Kane! We go over all of that, of course. And... another birth! The last one is Calamity Jane, American frontierswoman, sharpshooter, and raconteur. We also take a look back at the most special Snapshots of them all, the podcast's one-year anniversary! Thank you for joining me on this ride. Also, our apologies for today's audio. We had some technical difficulties but we can assure you that it is already fixed for the next episode.

  • Candy and Bid - America's Game #2

Welcome to the second edition of America's Game, a special edition to the podcast all about baseball! Today we're taking a trip to Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Specifically, we're looking at two unknown players in the Hall of Fame. The first is Candy Cummings, the inventor of the curveball and the top pitcher of his era. Plus, he is the smallest person in the Hall of Fame. Then, we learn about Bid McPhee, a personal favorite of mine. He was one of the last players to play the game WITHOUT a glove! He is also the last person admitted to the Hall of Fame whose career was during the 1800s. Of course, there is a lot more to the two players and we talk about some extra history as well. If you love baseball then you're going to love this episode. Know someone who loves baseball and baseball history? Then make sure to send this episode to them.

  • A Ribbon and Lots of Intrigue

We have a lot of Snapshots to cover this week! We start it off by covering some details on the FIRST detective story ever published by none other than Edgar Allan Poe, "Murder in the Rue Morgue." There's a lot of controversy around this one but we get to the bottom of it. Then, we talk about the mysterious murder of Nancy Titterton, a novelist and wife of an NBC executive. A single strand of horsehair solved this murder. Then, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" goes to number one on the Billboard charts. There's also a lot of controversy on the origins of this song. Of course, we discover the true origins on this episode. And lastly, who lays claim to the home of espresso causes tensions across Italy. Don't forget to share this with your friends so they don't miss out on all the fun too!

Then we rewind time to visit the 1800s with the birth of novelist Hans Christian Anderson, who penned such works as The Little Mermaid.
