In this Black History Month special, we continue our pursuit of education and this week turn our collective eyes to one of the most integral elements of this historic month - racists. Did you know in Mississippi you aren’t racist if you refer to all Blacks as “lazy welfare recipients?” How about if you put up signs that read: “White Power” - nope, at least not in Texas. How about if a New Yorker says the first African-American president doesn’t love the country he serves and was raised by Communists? Well, while that would at least make you a jerk, it evidently is not a racist – and we checked. Evidently, the whole racist thing is erased when the President is Black, but his mother and grandparents are white. Wow – I so didn’t know. Thanks for the lesson Rudy, you cross-dressing hater. So what about Hip Hop? Despite not showing the Hip Hop category on television or honoring any black rappers at the Grammy’s, we learned we don’t need no stinkin’ awards show to celebrate the culture. Blackness was openly celebrated by The Angry one, C.O. and Masta Talka with the help of Slick Rick, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force, Queen Latifah, Public Enemy, Goodie Mob, Gang Starr, Jadakiss and even Kwame. Yo! Is that Iggy’s bum or some doughy, pockmarked pastries from down under? Who knows? But there is one this we do know – it’s Boom Bap Radio!

So what do you call a situation where Jordian pilots are being burned alive, Bobbi Kristina is on life support, Jiggaman and B are moving to L.A. and Suge Knight ran over someone with a car? Pretty crappy – huh? Well, we thought so too. The BBR crew of The C.O., Masta Talka and Angry Engineer sifted through all of the bad news and still managed to extract some wonderful nuggets of Hip Hop. The Four Owls were back, Busy Bee, Leaders of the New School. Heavy D.; NaS and Channel Live all emerged without a speck when the fit hit the shan. Hey look its Kim Kardashian’s butt again! To kick off our “2015 Campaign-O-Fun” – we here at Boom Bap Radio decided to focus on the Leader of the Free World and his “drop the mic moment” which occurred during his sixth State of the Union Address. Because Barry-O had to let the world, the GOP and whoever else was listening, know that he was still running point, the BBR crew of J-Crush, the C.O., Masta Talka and Angry Engineer felt obliged to follow the President’s lead by playing funky Classic Hip-Hop in direct conflict with commercial radio. Along the way we give our view on the Charlie Hedbo controversy, Jahadi John of ISIS fame, the Cheat-riots and De-flate-gate and America’s strategic return to Cuba. Ha ha – Jeb Bush, you’re too late - we got this! As do Dr. Dre, Snoop; Dead Prez; Grand Puba, De La Soul, Ghostface and The Four Owls along with so many others on this ride to Funkytown. Yo, Funk Flex, stop playing all that young-ass garbage. That ain’t the culture. Wait I’ve gotta take this – I think Jay’s texting you in all CAPS AGAIN! Or maybe it’s just - Boom Bap Radio.

With no indictments returned by grand juries in Ferguson, Mo., and Staten Island, NY, the BBR Crew – Angry Engineer, The C.O. and Masta Talka – got all rugged and raw with the world’s best protest music. Taped hours after thousands marched with Rev. Al and the families of unarmed men slain by police, the BBR crew let the fur fly and yes Virginia, the revolution was most definitely televised. Although miles away from the live scene in Washington D.C., the crew decided to stay Jersey side and demand new federal policing standards and the end of police violence with the its own special list of speakers: Ice Cube, N.W.A.; Public Enemy, Redman, Cypress Hill, Kool G. Rap, the Outsidaz, Gang Starr to name few. Unabashedly filthy, our conscious rhymes may have spanned decades, but seemed so relevant they could have been written just days ago. We didn’t care if you dunked Nicki Minaj’s booty in some milk, accused Bill Cosby of drugging and violating a chick or averted a government shutdown. We weren’t gonna let no one turn us around! In anticipation of the ruling in Ferguson, Mo., the BBR Crew – Angry Engineer, J-Crush, The C.O. and Masta Talka – finally put a pony-tail on the game and delved into the buttery smooth songs of R&B and its role in Hip-Hop. This time focusing on male R&B stars, the crew put this whole episode on chill and given the uproar from Missouri it couldn’t have come at a better time. We talk about murderous officer Darren Wilson, King Obama’s royal proclamation on immigration reform, Winnie The Pooh’s questionable sexuality and of course Kim K’s butt in this sex filled edition. But, ha,ha – get it? Male R&B’s stars were the story this week. We hear from Jodeci, Case, Ne-Yo, Montel Jordan and Nate Dogg along with the likes of LL Cool J, Ghostface Killah, Missy Elliott and the Force MD’s. Still recovering from the weeklong Zulu Nation celebration, J-Crush returned to the fold and the fun ensued. The complete BBR crew, including Masta Talka, The C.O. and Angry Engineer were on hand to discuss all things relevant: magma in Hawaii, the Mid-term election sweep by the GOP, the passing of Rap pioneer Big Bank Hank and the growing controversy over Mrs. Kanye West’s impressively large, round, glistening derriere. Yep, only the most important stuff for our listeners. Oh there was Hip-Hop from Zulu’s too – A Tribe Called Quest; Naughty Nation, Ice-T and our very own J-Crush kept it real and joined with the likes of Divine Styler, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and The Sugar Hill Gang. Yo C-Span caller - we already knew the GOP hated Obama – you racist. Yeah, yeah we know, Rep. Tim Scott and Rep. Mia Love are just different somehow. We get it. I’m so glad racism is over. When you love Hip Hop you never know who you’ll run into when you’re “creepin’ through the hood.” For our very own C.O. a shopping trip turned legendary when she picked up a Grammy Award winner and dope MC in Ms. Lauryn Hill. Beautiful and gracious, a picture was not too much to ask for L. Boogie and we reciprocated with a musical trip down memory lane for the former Fugee. Masta Talka and Angry Engineer joined in to discuss the panic over Ebola and to unveil a new feature: “Douche Bags on Parade.” Yep, we said goodbye and good luck to Michael Dunn’s murderous ass; speculated on Oscar Pistorious’ fate and wondered how an unarmed kid would fight a cop with a gun in a police cruiser. Hmmm. At least the Hip Hop wasn’t questionable. Tracks from L. Boogs, birthday boy Wyclef Jean, the Beastie Boys, UMC’s, the Wu, Snoop and Dre took center stage. Snoop, you were right. In what was the first show in September, so the Boom Bap Radio Crew did one just for the kids. J-Crush, The Angry Engineer Masta Talka and the C.O. got really Ol. School by playing some hot, fire from the 80’s. Still not over the recent rash of Police Brutality, the crew questioned new shootings of unarmed Black men in South Carolina and Ohio as well as a beating of an unarmed pregnant woman in NYC. We also welcome baby Charlotte Clinton into the world, England into the bombing campaign against ISIS and hint at the Douchey McDouche Bag winner for September. Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force, Run-DMC; The Treacherous Three; Cold Crush, Kurtis Blow and the Fatback Band gave funky lessons in Rap history for the kids. Fresh off the outrage after the Michael Brown shooting, the Boom Bap Radio Crew try to go quietly into the night with a little Jazzy Hip-Hop. Smooth and ready to soothe, The C.O. J-Crush, Angry Engineer and Masta Talka pondered the heightened alert in England due to ISIS, studied tape in the Brown shooting and drank some Twisted Tea with the Obama statue. Kind of makes you want to put on a cool, tan suit and go summering in the MV. Aaaah, oh yeah, Hip-Hop was still blazing hot. Angry and uncensored, the Hip-Hop podcasting quartet examined the unrest in Ferguson and highlighted the march in memory of Eric Garner, who was killed by police on Staten Island, NY.
