Is it because he gives his 30-year-old besty and silly rabbit millions of dollars, but won’t let her floss with Black folks? Racism was on parade for this show, but each query seemed to raise even more troubling questions. Why is Toronto’s Mayor taking a Crack break? Where is Malaysian Flight 370? Why did Christ Bearer cut off his penis? Hmmm. Public Enemy, Rob Base & the late DJ E-Z Rock, MC Lyte, Snoop, Pharrell and even Erick Sermon and Red tried to help us solve these mysteries. This week that pesky “B-word” seemed to be in everyone’s mouth. With Jimmy Fallon and Anne Hathaway leading the way, J-Crush, the Angry Engineer, C.O. and Masta Talka stumbled down the primrose path and joined right in. We talked about the B that was replaced as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, that B who threw a shoe at the B who may be running for President, that Ukrainian Barbie B, who hates children and especially those of mixed race and of course that B who gave a deep, long kiss to Louisiana Congressman Vance McAllister. But there was Hip-Hop in the middle of that too. M.O.P., Kool G. Rap, Raekwon; Naughty By Nature and Red and Meth joined us on our trek. In memory of Frankie Knuckles, the BBR Crew dedicate their latest show to the father of house music and reminisce on the brief run of Hip House with the JB’s; King Sun, Twin Hype and K-Yze. Without the almighty J-Crush, the crew also marked the 25th anniversary of Slick Rick’s release of Children’s Story and the 20th anniversary of NaS’ classic “Illmatic.” The Angry Engineer, C.O. and Masta Talka also cheer look in on P. Poppa Diddy Pop and J-Lo’s push to buy Fuse TV, examine the shooting at Fort Hood and listen for the all that pinging that’s going on in the Indian Ocean. The panel also celebrates the accomplishments of the many, many funky female MC’s of the past. Salt'N’Pepa , Bahamadia, Yo Yo; Da Brat; Foxy Brown, MC Lyte and of course Queen Latifah strut their respective stuff during this annual BBR tradition. The entire Boom Bap Radio crew collectively tucked themselves into bed and like the petulant children they are, demanded a story. Luckily the NJ Governor and his staff weren’t far away and were all chock full of stories. There’s the one about the snarled traffic, the one about the held up federal funds and the best one of all – the one about their boss having no clue. We so love story time. But you know us, we couldn’t stay in bed for long, so we sneaked out. We wished the FLOTUS Happy Born Day, went to the movies and prepared for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There was some Hip-Hop in the middle of all of that too. Public Enemy, the Mau Maus, Big Daddy Kane, Ludacris, Divine Styler and the Sugar Hill Gang held open the window and drove the getaway car.
