Jerry spilled coffee on his white sweatshirt but that can’t ruin the vibes on a Feel Good Friday. The Giants first preseason game is tonight and Boomer thinks they can have a top 10 offense. Boomer thinks the Eagles will take a step back. C-Lo is back and looking like a proud American on this fine Friday. The Mets host the Braves this weekend so good luck to them with that. The Yankees visit the Marlins and Jerry says any pitcher the Yankees throw out right now is a better option than Luis Severino. Garrett Wilson returned to practice for the Jets. Robert Saleh said the Jets might move AVT to left tackle if they have to and Boomer found it noteworthy that, when naming a bunch of linemen, Saleh did not mention Mekhi Becton. The 49ers had Philip Rivers ready to go as a contingency if they made the Super Bowl and needed a QB. Joey Bosa cracked the code to gaining weight: just eat more. The continuing battle between golfers who left the PGA Tour for LIV and those who stayed. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry gives credit to Big Zoo for his dedication to living a healthier lifestyle. Zoo thanks Boomer and Gio for challenging him and inspiring him to start this journey. Jerry thought what Zoo said on the Postgame Podcast yesterday was inspirational. Boomer says all of the Yankees fans who complain about Cashman and Boone really just want a new owner.
Max Scherzer went on a podcast and explained his comments about needing to meet with the Mets front office. He also raved about Steve Cohen’s vision and how the Mets organization treats its players. This season didn’t go according to plan but Boomer and Jerry agree that Scherzer and Verlander praising the organization will be a positive for other free agents. C-Lo returns for an update and Boomer asks him to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to stick with the theme of “Long Live America”. The Yankees are back in action tonight. Did John Sterling make a little joke about Aaron Boone Wednesday night? The Yankees offense has been much worse than expected. They can’t get a big hit or even just a sac fly when they need one. Catcher Erik Kratz, who caught Deivi Garcia in 2020, trashed the Yankees for their handling of Garcia. Boomer reminds us the one thing we’ll never know is how a player acts behind the scenes. Jerry wonders if Johnny Manziel kind of gave up before he really got started in Cleveland in part because of where he was playing. CLo has clips from Max Scherzer detailing his conversation with Steve Cohen and Billy Eppler. Robert Saleh wants to keep the Jets grounded and the Giants are under the radar. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry wishes good luck to Massapequa Little League tonight and then plays a version of WFAN Immaculate Grid.
Boomer talks about the wildfires in Maui and knows that the wonderful people out there will rebuild a beautiful island. The guys then discuss the story with Iowa and Iowa State players allegedly betting on games they played in. What should their punishment be? This leads to more discussion of Phil Mickelson denying betting on the Ryder Cup. C-Lo returns for an update but first, Boomer reminds us that online sportsbooks can track who is betting on what so it’s hard for anyone who shouldn’t be gambling to get away with it. Players asking other players to join them is not tampering. Should teams in states with high taxes be allowed to have a higher salary cap? Level the playing field somehow. Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson are having fun at camp. In the final segment of the hour, CLo debuts “Is he a Jet, Giant, Senator or Fictional Sports Movie Character?”
Jerry ticked off some Mets fans yesterday when he suggested that Pete Alonso might not be a long-term fit. Boomer tries to figure out what a fair contract for Alonso will look like. Jerry says if the Mets want him then they should get a deal done before Pete hits free agency at the end of next season. What do the Yankees need to do in these next six games against the Marlins and Braves? C-Lo returns for his final update of the week but first, Jerry looks for Mets tickets on the secondary market. He will have plenty of options to sit in great seats on the cheap. Bill Belichick’s press conferences where he says nothing are back. Mike Tyson gets some songs confused. Jets tackle Billy Turner had an interesting way to describe the difference between playing left tackle and right. In the final segment of the week, Jerry reveals the secret to Boomer working until he’s 100. Boomer wants to take everyone on a python hunt.
