Jerry Recco and Sal Licata are in for Boomer & Gio today. The Subway Series starts tonight in Citi Field and there doesn’t seem to be much anticipation for the game because of injuries and how the teams have been playing. Jerry expects Max Scherzer to pitch well tonight. Sal thinks the Mets will make the playoffs this season. Sal said the Mets highest paid players ‘aren’t doing squat’. How does Giancarlo Stanton not play when Aaron Judge is already out of the lineup? Sal wonders if Pete Alonso was aware of Evan’s ‘pieces of crap’ quote about Scherzer and Verlander while they were at the comedy show last night. With Jerry hosting this morning, Peter Schwartz is here with his first update of the day, but first Jerry tells us that cornhole bean bags cost $150 a pair. Peter starts with audio from the Denver Nuggets winning their first NBA title. Nikola Jokic won the Finals MVP. Billy McKinney of the Yankees talks about facing Scherzer and Verlander. Sal thinks the Mets are really feeling the pressure and they are making more mental mistakes. Peter once went to a Jets game in L.A. and Raiders fans kept getting in his face. Sal and Peter battle over the fact that Sal put an Islanders jersey on while in the owner’s box. In the final segment of the hour, we took calls from Mets fans who don’t think they are a playoff team even though Sal thinks they are.
While driving through SoHo, Sal said he saw some really elaborate nice looking graffiti. He said he never once saw somebody doing graffiti so he wonders when they do it. We also talked about getting involved or not getting involved if somebody is in trouble on the subway. Sal doesn’t like viral videos that have any disrespect in them. Peter Schwartz returns for an update but first Jerry tells us about a pitcher at Stanford who threw 156 pitches in a game. Nolan Ryan once threw 235 pitches in a game. Peter starts with audio from last night’s Denver Nuggets NBA Finals win. Nuggets fans were lighting off fireworks in a crowd. Nikola Jokic loved proving the doubters wrong. Shohei Ohtani hit two more HRs last night. Sal said the Mets will be the highest bidder for Ohtani but he may want to play somewhere else for less. Sal said we are all zombies: on our phones, on weed, drinking. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry wonders where Sal was when Luis Castillo dropped the pop up in the Subway Series. Sal was there at the stadium with Mike Francesa. Sal also had to drive down to Englishtown NJ to watch his kid play. It was 2 ½ hours each way. Sal wants to live a life of convenience and does not want to do anything he doesn’t want to do anymore. Jerry wants Sal to choose between heartbreaking sports team losses or doing inconvenient things in life. Sal said he is taking his independence back.
The Subway Series gets underway tonight in Queens. Sal doesn’t like the 2-game series instead of a 3-game series. Unless there’s a 2-game sweep, it takes away from it because there’s no winner or loser. The Yankees have not played terribly, they are a number of games over .500, but they play in a very competitive division. Sal said the game still means something to the fans even though Judge and Alonso are not playing. Peter returns for an update and starts with the Nuggets winning their first NBA championship.
