As we celebrate the Lord's Supper together this morning, we turn to the fourth saying of Jesus from the cross - "I thirst." It is a word filled with humanity that serves a powerful reminder to us. For what do we really thirst? The things of God or the things of this world?

Prior to beginning our study in the book of Nehemiah, it seems this would be a great time to once again visit the primary focus of our church. While there are many aspects of ministry taking place at Boone Trail, they all fall under the the three primary building blocks of LOVE, CONNECT, SERVE. Today we will discover how these three actions lead to healthy disciple making as well as promoting overall church health.

As we conclude the letter of 1 Corinthians, we are introduced to several people who had an impact on Paul and the church. Once again, we are reminded the Christian life is never to be lived in isolation but in relationship with other believers, as we seek to serve the Lord by serving others.

In machine-gun-like fashion, Paul fires off some encouragements for the church in ancient Corinth. But they are equally applicable and needed for us today in Johnson City. "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”

Having just come out of a discussion on the power of the resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15, Paul teaches us the reality of Christ's resurrection has a direct impact upon ordinary life. Now, in 1 Corinthians 16, Paul gives us plain and practical instruction on our Call to Service within the church.

This morning, we continue studying through the New Testament book of 1 Corinthians with a topic few preachers like to talk about and even fewer church folks like to hear about. But not many spiritual disciplines are able to display where our heart really is quite like the spiritual discipline of giving.
