I understand that money is a complex topic and that as a parent, you may be unsure where to begin or how to keep personal finance PG so as not to overwhelm your children or instil fear of money in them. Nevertheless, teaching children about money management must become a priority. And you can start as soon as they begin asking for stuff.
In today's podcast episode, I give ten tips for raising financially independent children.
1. Make financial education fun and easy
2. Talk about money early on
3. Curate and encourage them to foster good habits
4. Teach them how to build their money confidence
5. Teach all genders about the inequalities around money
6. Help them to open their own bank account
7. Teach and show them how a bank account works
8. Encourage them to start investing early
9. Encourage them to opt-in to their pension (if over 18)
10. Allow children to learn on their own by making their own mistakes
