  • Trade Unions in America
Vice President Joe Biden spoke to members of the United Auto Worker Union, addressing what he called a "war on labor." The issue is relevant to Chattanooga because UAW officials are in the middle of an organizing effort at the Volkswagen plant. Biden also said that right-wing business interests are trying to dismantle labor unions, which is related to growing income inequality in the United States, according to The Huffington Post."This is a concerted, full-throated, well-organized, well-financed, well-thought-out, long-term effort waging a war on labor's house," Biden told The Huffington Post.He also said that President Barack Obama's administration would fight for collective bargaining before the Supreme Court.Look at Harris v. Quinn, the case before the Supreme Court. There’s a hell of a lot at stake. The president and I, through the solicitor general, came in on the side of the unions on the oral arguments and finally had an amicus brief, because we know that collective bargaining is the bedrock of our economy.NOOGA.com

  • African American Quarterbacks,Racism and the NFL
The precursor to African American  History Month was created in 1926 in the United States, when historian Dr Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be "Negro History Week. This week was chosen because it marked the birthday of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
He noted that African-American contributions "were overlooked, ignored, and even suppressed by the writers of history textbooks and the teachers who use them." Race prejudice, he concluded, "is merely the logical result of tradition, the inevitable outcome of thorough instruction to the effect that the Negro has never contributed anything to the progress of mankind Wikipedia

  • Pete Seeger Walks On
Indians don’t commonly call elders by their first name, but Pete was always Pete and so he shall always be.  His life was a sound track of the labor movement, the anti-war movement, and the civil rights movement.
He contributed his talents to the movement to free Leonard Peltier, among many other persons locked up in disputes with governments.  Like many decent people, he spent the fifties on the black list.  His last major brush with censorship was his appearance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1967, from which his song Waist Deep in the Big Muddy was cut until a public outcry reversed the decision in 1968.  http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2014/01/28/pete-seeger-walks-94-153301
