  • Repeal the Second Amendment
In 1939 the Supreme Court unanimously held that Congress could prohibit the possession of a sawed-off shotgun because that weapon had no reasonable relation to the preservation or efficiency of a “well regulated militia.”During the years when Warren Burger was our chief justice, from 1969 to 1986, no judge, federal or state, as far as I am aware, expressed any doubt as to the limited coverage of that amendment.
Chief Justice Burger publicly characterized the N.R.A. as perpetrating “one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.”In 2008, the Supreme Court overturned Chief Justice Burger’s and others’ long-settled understanding of the Second Amendment’s limited reach by ruling, in District of Columbia v. Heller, that there was an individual right to bear arms. I was among the four dissenters. John Paul Stevens

    MARCH   FOR OUR   LIVES.  https://marchforourlives.com/
Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our schools are unsafe. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save these lives.

  • Minneapolis Police Offier Charged in Murder of Justine Damond
Damond’s fiancé, Don Damond and his family, along with Damond’s father, John Ruszczyk and the Ruszczyk family, applauded the charges in a joint statement, calling it “one step toward justice for this iniquitous act.” “While we waited over eight months to come to this point, we are pleased with the way a grand jury and County Attorney Mike Freeman appear to have been diligent and thorough in investigating and ultimately determining that these charges are justified,” the statement said. “We remain hopeful that a strong case will be presented by the prosecutor, backed by verified and detailed forensic evidence, and that this will lead to a conviction. No charges can bring our Justine back. However, justice demands accountability for those responsible for recklessly killing the fellow citizens they are sworn to protect, and today’s actions reflect that.”Read the charges against Minneapolis police officer https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4416241/Mohamed-Noor-criminal-complaint.pdf

  • St. Patrick’s Day 2018
It is impossible at this time of year not to think of my mother, who was Irish to her core, in ways both good and bad. She was a Cavanagh, and it was she who took me by the hand to my very first St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which also happened to be the first to be held on State Street. This was in 1956, and I don’t remember, though can logically assume, that new Mayor Richard J. Daley led the parade. But I have always remembered something my mother told me that day.
She was not smiling as were the hundreds around us as the parade passed, and when I asked, “Why aren’t you happy?” she said, “The Irish have not always had a happy time of it.” ChicagoTribunme

  • PA-18 The Day After
Conor Lamb spoke to his supporters just before 12:45 a.m. as absentee votes were still being counted.“It took longer than we thought, but we did it,” he said, even though results had not yet been released.kDKA TV
The unofficial total for absentee ballots in Washington County, shows Democrat Conor Lamb with 609 votes and Republican Rick Saccone, 547.
Democrats, meanwhile, may say that Mr. Lamb has shown that candidates can be competitive in districts won by Mr. Trump. Terry Madonna, a veteran pollster at Franklin & Marshall College, said, “Moving forward, that tells Democrats that in districts Trump won by 8, 10, 12 even 20 points not to nationalize the race.”
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald praised the candidate. "Conor is a great candidate and he ran a great campaign. ... I've never seen a campaign with so much grassroots enthusiasm."Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
