The Box Elder High School swim team kicked off their season last Saturday by hosting the Box Elder Invitational, where both the boys’ and girls’ teams took first place. The Bees also traveled to the Nebo Invitational last Saturday in Springville. The Bees found some stiffer competition in Utah County and wound up in second place overall, with the boys taking second and the girls finishing third. Students at the Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning crafted poppies to decorate the school’s walls as part of a day-long Veterans Day celebration that included patriotic programs and musical numbers, presentations from visiting dignitaries about service, sacrifice and civic duty, veterans and service members visiting classrooms, and a military vehicle display. Box Elder County commissioners have approved partial property-tax abatements for two elderly residents whose reported incomes were a few dollars above the state’s qualifying limit.
