The parables of Jesus taught great spiritual lessons through simple physical images. They were intended for those who had ears to hear. They’re as true today as the day Jesus spoke them. Let’s begin with a parable about seed and ground.

Jesus’ miracles were a powerful aspect of His ministry. And, His words were an important part of His miracles. Let’s see how Jesus’ miraculous words demonstrated His authority then and now.

Last week, we started letting Jesus break our hearts with the phrase, “I desire mercy & not sacrifice.” He continues with that same challenge to let us exam ourselves & see if we have any “Sabbath” places in our hearts where we have not yielded to His lordship.

Has Jesus ever broken your heart? He didn’t come to disappoint, but to tear down preconceptions & rebuild the hearts of men in the image of God in which they were first create. With His red letters, “I desire mercy & not sacrifice,” Jesus intends to break our hearts regarding harsh judgment.

Among Jesus’ red letters, few are more loved than “Come to Me, all you who labor & are heavy laden, & I will give you rest.” But, what caused Jesus to say these words? Let’s find out who first heard Jesus speak these words to see how they affect us today.

Perhaps Jesus most emphatic “I AM” statement came in the face of severe opposition from the Jewish leaders, who challenged His identity and authority. In it, we are reminded that Jesus is the Creator, the Alpha & Omega, Beginning & the End, the First & the Last, YHWH in the flesh. Praise God for Jesus’ “I AM” statements!

Some of Jesus’ “I Am” statements condemned His adversaries. We find two such statements in John 10. At the same time, they give great hope to His “sheep”. Let’s see what those two statements are.

Where do you abide today? One of Jesus’ “I Am” statements gives us the answer to where we should abide spiritually, how we do this, and the blessings from doing so. Let’s see where we should abide by looking at Jesus’ statement, “I am the true vine.”

How would an “I Am” statement of Jesus cause many disciples to depart from Him and walk with Him no more? It could be because it revealed the hearts of those disciples, and their view of Jesus. It could reveal our heart condition as well. Let’s learn how God wants us the feast upon the Bread of Life.
