Today I'm talking about Personal Branding on Instagram -more specifically, separating the business and personal accounts on Instagram.
Please keep in mind that this is my experience and how I decided to work my branding strategy. This is not to say that is the only way and you cannot mix all under one same account -you can, just presents more challenges, but is absolutely doable and, in fact, is easier when done from the get-go.

I'm breaking down this episode in 6 main points below:
1. YOUR NICHE AND YOUR BRAND DO NOT NEED TO REPRESENT ALL PARTS OF YOU: My personal account differs greatly of my business account content. Could I have everything in one place and balance it out? Sure! But it's definitely harder. My writer friends, and my tarot/spiritualist friends, and my horror fans friends do not care about branding tips for creative businesses. Most of them have 9 to 5 jobs and they like it that way. Most women entrepreneurs in my target audience do not care about horror, fiction writing career, or tarot -so why would I put the pressure and extra work on myself trying to make all work in ONE account? I saw it as a simpler and more efficient strategy to keep 2 separate accounts.
2. Niching down allows us to focus more, therefore, get better at something.
3. It is important to not lose focus of what branding really is. Nowadays we are selling only the "purpose under one same flag" while "creating a tribe" and it borderlines a religion. While yes, we want to attract and connect with a certain group of people, we also want to sell. And that same people we attract and connect are not in love with our brands just because -it is because we offer them not only a purpose in common, but a service, product, or knowledge they need to grow their business or make their own lives easier in some way. Branding is an appeal to emotions, but it is first and foremost a STRATEGY for your BUSINESS growth, through a strategically created messaging system. Never lose sight of this.
4. Focusing and niching down, positioning ourselves through our brand, in a certain way that will allow us and our business to grow, is absolutely fine. There is no guilt or shame in this strategic move. This does not make us less authentic, genuine, true in any way. THIS is what allows us to build the lifestyle business we all want. We become entrepreneurs, most of time, for this reason.
5. Deactivating my personal account for a couple of months paid allowed me to focus on my business account without distractions. It paid off! The best way to build brand awareness, work on positioning and build authority, is niching down. Focusing on one thing at a time. On the next episode, I'll break down my exact steps on how I got 4 times more followers with minimal time and effort on Instagram, why I chose this platform instead of the many others out there, how it got me to a TV show on CW channel… everything.
6. As a final thought, remember that there is no right or wrong in how you structure your personal brand presence on social media. It just should be done around a strategy that supports your business growth, if that's what you want. Take into consideration how much you can handle, what is serving the purpose and what is not.
