How can we be more bold in the world as women leaders and as women in STEM?
If you’re interested in how, as women leaders we can become bolder in making the world a better place, listen to this week’s guest Francesca Brady, Forbes 30 under 30, Management Today 35 under 35 winner of the Veuve Clicquot BOLD Future Award at the Bold Woman Awards, and co-founder of AirRated whose purpose is to improve indoor air quality and create healthier indoor environments from homes to offices to schools.
We drink approx. 2 litres of water a day. We breathe 11,000 litres of air a day. We are conscious of what we put into our bodies with regards to food (healthy eating) and drink (clean water) etc. - but do we think about the air we breathe? We spend 90% of our lives indoors… Every organ in the human body - from our hearts to our skin - is impacted by the air we breathe…
So the quality of indoor air could not be more important for our health.
Francesca shares how we can create cleaner air for everyone, and how we can be bolder in leading the way to a better future for all.

How can we achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050?
If you’re interested in being part of the challenge to reach Net Zero Emissions by 2050 listen to my guest Dr Reem Swidah Phd a post-doctoral researcher at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology whose work aims to harness the exceptional evolutionary abilities of synthetic yeast strains to produce biofuels as a potential replacement for fossil fuels.
Dr Reem won a L’Oréal UNESCO For Women In Science award for her work 2024. She has always defended her rights and advocates for women’s rights at work. Challenging stereotypes, she believes diversity in STEM drives progress and innovation. That does not mean she's not not faced challenges in her career, but she was always prepared not to be shaken off her path.
She shows us that we can all take the opportunity to contribute to climate solutions by making different choices in our personal lives, encouraging education for climate action and supporting moves to replace fossil fuels.

How can we transform our home environments into biophilic sanctuaries that restore our bodies, help us to keep us more focused and boost our immune system?
If you’re interested in designing a better environment for your life and wellbeing listen to this week’s guest Nina Rowland Interior Designer and co-creator of The Water Shed, whose home and eco-retreat they created, was featured on Grand Designs TV show and went viral on Cool Stays with over 7 million views.
Nina shows us how to design our lives and our environment so that we may reconnect with our nature and the world around us.
With a natural swimming pool and biophilic design it is a place to restore, reconnect and rejuvenate. It is proven that spending time in nature lowers the heart rate and blood pressure, it reduces the production of cortisol, the stress hormone and it actually improves the immune system.
Biophilic Design applies this connection with nature into an architectural and interior design context. By integrating elements such as light, plants, water and earthy materials into built environments, it enhances well-being, health and productivity.
We are running a retreat together at The Water Shed on June 16th https://louhamiltonart.com/creative-transformation-retreats/

Are perennial crops the future and can they help soil, climate, nutrition and biodiversity all at the same time!
If you’re interested in future food security and growing your own veg that you put in the ground once and reap the rewards year after year tune in to this week’s guest Mandy Barber, co-founder of Incredible Vegetables, an experimental vegetable growing project and a research space dedicated to useful perennial edibles and future food crops.
Mandy was a successful artist in London, but it was starting to feel a bit cliquey and stale, and when, 14 years ago she was lucky enough to buy a share of a piece of land she jumped at the chance.
One perennial vegetable plant led to another and within a couple of years people were asking to buy plants from her, that is how Incredible vegetables was born.
There are so few people/companies growing perennial vegetable plants in the UK, it soon became evident that she was filling a niche, a huge demand for the plants. And every plant she sends out is a contribution to the survival of that plant species, which if they are taken care of will survive into the future.
They ARE the plants that are going to feed and sustain us in the future.
Tune in to find out how you can grow and eat your way to a healthier you and a healthier planet.

How can we stop seeing plants as simply a “green blur” and take an interest in their conservation?
If you’re interested in the natural world around us and how we can conserve it for the future, listen to my guest DR Erin Zimmerman Phd evolutionary biologist, science writer, botany illustrator and author of Unrooted. She argues for the need to save plant species as part of helping preserve the rich ecosystem of the planet.
Her story to address two parallel losses she saw occurring that she thinks need far more attention than they get: the loss of the tools and expertise needed to find and understand new species via the underfunding of natural history research and collections, and the loss of talented female scientists as they become mothers and find that a career in research doesn’t allow for their caregiving responsibilities.
In the end she chose to become a science writer where she could have impact in sharing her knowledge more broadly whilst raising a family at the same time.
Her book benefits people and the planet by shining a light on the dire state of plant biodiversity, the need to see plants as more than a pretty backdrop, and how people who care about plants can help, even if they don’t have a background in science.
She helps us be brave and to engage even when the problem is big, by realising that there are smaller ways for us all to help.
