The Lenni Lenape are a Native American tribe that lived in Philadelphia and have had a complicated past. After living on this land for a long time, they were pushed out by the Europeans and the diseases they brought. Now the population of the Lenape is small, but some still live in the area.

The IWSWS was a home for elderly women only. It was founded by Sarah Ralston, and it had a series of strict requirements for women wishing to enter, such as “too poor” and “probably rebellious”. Sarah Ralston was also discriminating against people or other color or race. So if you were a person of color then you can forget about it. This eventually evolved into a really nice nursing home right across the street from SLAMS.

Horizon House is an organization that treats mental health issues and mental disabilities through a specialized community-based program It was founded in 1952 by Marcella Schoeger to combat the mistreatment the mentally ill faced from mental institutions.

The ICA is a non-profit institute that shows contemporary art. It was founded in 1963 by Holmes Perkins, and is located at 118 South 36th Street. It shows off art from people of all different cultural backgrounds. They also try to show off art from unrecognized artists, sometimes getting those artists famous.

American Bandstand was a popular T.V. show, with teenagers and a host named Dick Clark. American Bandstand began on October 7th, 1952 and ended on October 7th, 1989. American Bandstand changed the music industry forever.

 The Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology is a research facility that had created many life-saving vaccines. It has accomplished many things over the years and is currently working on a cure for cancer.

The Penn Relays is a very important race in Philadelphia.  About 15,000 people run in it each year. People come from all over the world just to race.

CHOP is a hospital dedicated to children and takes care of them no matter what. CHOP also teaches people how to be pediatricians. People come from all around the world to go to CHOP.
