As the Apostle Peter approached the end of his life he penned his second letter. Amazingly the primary concern in his writing is not his own impending death but rather the spiritual wellbeing of God’s people. Here Peter exhorts his readers to grow by knowing and delighting in the Gospel. Tonight we will be thinking about 2 Peter 3:14-18, the final words that he writes, and we will consider what it means for us to be a people ‘Growing in Grace.’

Often what we say we believe with our lips doesn’t seem to line up with what we see in the world. There’s a gap between our expectations and our experiences of the world. We may be all those things, and more, but when Jesus laid out his description of those that followed him, he simply called them SALT & LIGHT. So how’s that going for you? How were you salt & light last week? Tonight we will be unpacking this key description from Jesus’ sermon on the mount, working through together what it might mean for us to be SALT & LIGHT in the world today.

To kick us off in our advent series we’re going to look at the villain of the incarnation story. The duplicitous and paranoid King Herod who didn’t just want to dismiss the coming of the Messiah, but actively took steps to put an end to his life. We’re going to hone in on the seemingly simple question Herod was asked by the Wise Men and ask ourselves what that has to do with us. The point this morning is simple but weighty: There’s a new king in Bethlehem and it’s time to make him king.

This morning we are looking at Mark’s account of Jesus feeding a crowd of the four thousand people. It’s a well known event to many of us, but hopefully we can go a bit deeper than one might expect and see Jesus as our great and powerful provider of all things, not just our physical bread. With that in mind, let’s hope and pray that God will grant us a deeper understanding of all that He has done for us through His Son.
