Who is harder to love... God who you cannot see or people who you can see- Think about it for any length of time and you'll go back and forth in your conclusion. It might be thought it is easier to love people because you can actually see them and interact tangibly with them. And yet what you see in them and how the interact with you often makes it quite difficult to love them. So who is harder to love- Getting the answer right could change your love life with both.

The Lord Jesus was a preacher.--As such He is The Preacher. All Gospel preaching must ground itself in Him. All Gospel preachers must find their inspiration, their model, their standard from the Preacher, Jesus.

Now we have been studying the book of Hebrews to see how everything God gave to the nation of Israel was a shadow of something better and more complete that he was to present in Christ. Christ is better than the prophets of old and speaks to us a Word that is more sure. Christ is better than the angels who spoke to the old testament prophets. Christ is better than Moses. Christ is better than Aaron and gives us a better priesthood. Now Christ opens to us a better promise from God for our lives. Christ serves in a better Temple. Provides a better sacrifice etc. But all that He does better or fully was foreshadowed in the patterns and the shadows of the Old. The author of Hebrews is not diminishing the Old Testament laws and customs and expressions. He is elevating them to their highest by saying they represented a better thing to come and that thing has come in Christ.

I want you to see that God in His wisdom has taken a measure of everything that is needed for your transcendent relationship with Him. He has crafted a salvation that is fit for you. You don't even know yourself. You don't actually understand the inner workings of your own heart and motive. You don't know the depth of your sin and you don't know the potential heights of your glory. You can't take the measure of anyone else and you can't even take a full measure of yourself. But God has. And God knows what suits you, what becomes you, what fits your great deficits and your greater potential and God has provided the exact measure of your need in His Son Jesus Christ.

Their own nursery song would have been -the law of the Lord is perfect restoring the soul.- Now the Jew had come to think that the law was perfect in providing all that they needed. And here the author of Hebrews corrects them. It's perfection is not in answering all that we need- it's perfection is in directing us to the one who is the answer for all that we need. It is not perfect in that it makes us perfect. It is perfect for its task - which is to show us that we are not perfect, not right but sinful. It is not perfect in delivering to us a way righteousness and justness. It is perfect in setting up a demand for righteousness and justness and bringing us under the sentence of justice so that it may direct us to the provision of God's mercy. And Listen, God's mercy was the destination the law was bringing us to.

With all God-s attributes, we may ascribe a worth which would lead us to fall before Him in adoring worship, but there is one effecting attribute of God that ignites that worship. Not all attributes initiate us as worshippers. In fact only one does.
