Thank you for joining us as Pastor Jeremy wraps up his "Summer Of Stories" series on Sunday in Glendive.
Luke 15:11-31 Parable of two sons
3 Things that stood out to me while reading this
parable:
1. The will of man
a. The son decided to ask for his inheritance
early, leave town, blow it on what he wanted,
he decided to take a job feeding the hogs, he
decided when to return home.
b. Gen. 3 Adam & Eve ate the fruit. The will of
the Lord was for them to NOT eat the fruit.
c. Num 20 Moses struck the rock with his rod.
The will of the Lord was for Moses to speak
to the rock.
d. Deut 30 the Lord says “I have set before you
life & death, blessing & cursing, therefore
choose life that you and your descendants
may live”
e. Let’s Make a Deal
2. The pursuit and mercy of God
a. Mercy - you don’t get what you deserve...or
you get what you don’t deserve.
b. Num 14:18 says the Lord is abundant in
mercy
c. Eph 2:4 says that God is rich in mercy
d. Psalm 136 His mercy endures forever
e. Lam 3:22-23 we put these scriptures to
song...”the steadfast love of the Lord never
ceases, his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning, great is Your
faithfulness”
3. Correction of a religious attitude
a. The older son tells dad, I have always served
you, I’ve always done what you said, and you
never even gave me a goat.
b. The older son was being righteous in his own
eyes...because of his own actions.
c. The father responds...we have a
relationship...you have access to everything
here...I am withholding nothing from you.
d. The he corrects his son and says “it was right
that we should make merry and be glad”
