To be very different from what is normal or expected — in a way that inspires or changes things.

Examples:

1- Temple Grandin broke the mold by becoming a scientist when many thought she couldn’t even go to school.
2- She’s not a traditional teacher, but the kids love her. She really breaks the mold.
