  • Aligning Culture and Capability: Smarter Systems for Sustainable Leadership with Matthew Person

In this insightful episode, Michael D. Levitt explores the Square Management System Alignment Model, a framework by Matthew Person designed to foster organizational alignment without the need for micromanagement. Developed by Matthew from Town Square Advisors, this model is grounded in real-world executive and M&A experience. It focuses on aligning employee beliefs and behaviors with company systems to prevent culture drift and enable long-term, sustainable growth. Michael underscored the urgent need for such systems, sharing examples of organizations that significantly improved through alignment—not turnover—by earning employee trust and recognizing internal capability.

    The Power of “Constrained Independence”

Matthew introduced the concept of constrained independence, a four-part management model built on Identity, Instruction, Intercommunication, and Information, with ten key operational elements. This framework helps leaders strike a balance between empowering staff and maintaining clarity. Listeners were invited to assess their own organizations using a free quiz at TownSquareAdvisors.com. Michael emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and cultural measurement—warning that top-down approaches to diversity and alignment can sometimes lead to unintended tension unless rooted in authenticity and openness.

    Lessons from Championship Teams

Drawing from professional sports, Michael shared a compelling analogy about leadership, team culture, and performance. While the 1990s New York Yankees focused on acquiring high-priced talent, it was the Boston Red Sox's commitment to balanced teams and deep culture, under leaders like Tito Francona, that ultimately led to their championships. The lesson? A deep bench, clear roles, and trust in your team’s abilities drive real, repeatable success.

    Trust, Decision-Making, and Human-Centered Leadership

Trust emerged as a recurring theme—especially in how it empowers independent decision-making and employee engagement. Matthew contrasted toxic, high-constraint workplaces with cultures that reward initiative. Michael reflected on his own experience of being hired for his potential, not just his résumé, and how adaptable systems that honor both organizational needs and individual strengths pave the way for high-performance cultures.

Hiring, Retention, and Thriving Work Environments

With over 18 years of leadership experience, Michael emphasized the importance of cultivating an environment where employees can grow, not just work. Culture isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s about designing systems and environments where your people can thrive. He challenged the myth of a “correct culture,” advocating instead for cultural authenticity and values-based alignment tailored to each organization.

Ethical Offboarding and Supporting Career Growth

When it comes to letting people go, Michael shared his values-driven approach: treat exits with dignity, and support people in finding better fits elsewhere. Drawing on personal experiences from both sides of the table, he emphasized the long-term value of trust, transparency, and doing what’s best for the individual, even when it's a tough call.

Culture Meets Data: Using Analytics to Lead Smarter

To round out the discussion, Matthew dove into how the Square Management System uses analytics to assess culture across various organizational levels. This diagnostic tool is especially helpful for startups and mission-driven entrepreneurs aiming to build cohesive teams from the start. The system doesn’t promise perfection, but it delivers clarity—giving leaders the actionable insights they need to close culture gaps, improve communication, and align operations with purpose. • Deep Dive: The Engagement Illusion: Rethinking Workforce Trends with a Human-First Lens

    Episode Summary:

In this episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, the hosts explore the key themes from the recent article, “Redefining Workplace Culture: A Human-Centered Approach to Engagement and Wellbeing.” Serving as a pointed response to the 2025 Gallagher Workforce Trends Report, this conversation challenges surface-level interpretations of employee engagement, workplace culture, and inclusion initiatives—offering a bold alternative grounded in human-first leadership.

The hosts question the validity of engagement metrics derived from surveys, calling out what they term the "engagement illusion"—a widespread misinterpretation that equates participation with satisfaction. They unpack the growing disconnect between career development and employee wellbeing, warning that promotion pipelines without adequate emotional and workload support can accelerate burnout rather than boost loyalty.

In discussing I&D (Inclusion and Diversity) efforts, the conversation highlights how many initiatives fall short of meaningful impact, often skewing performative rather than truly transformative. Instead, the hosts emphasize the need for authentic inclusion practices that uplift underrepresented voices and embed equity into daily operations.

They also examine the shifting expectations around flexible work arrangements, stressing that flexibility is no longer a luxury, it’s a baseline requirement for modern talent. The conversation moves beyond logistics, focusing on how to design flexible cultures that still promote connection, accountability, and performance.

The core takeaway? Sustainable organizational performance doesn’t stem from patchwork solutions. It begins with systemic cultural change rooted in a genuine, human-centered approach to leadership and strategy.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

    • Why traditional engagement surveys can paint a misleading picture of employee satisfaction

    • How burnout is often an unintended consequence of unchecked career growth pressure

    • What makes the difference between performative and meaningful I&D efforts

    • Why flexible work is now a fundamental expectation—not a competitive edge

    • How to lead with empathy and redesign culture for long-term success

      • Episode 900 of the Breakfast Leadership Show

        900 Episodes of Transformative Leadership

In this special 900th episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, I take a moment to reflect with deep gratitude. Hosting nearly a thousand conversations with thought leaders, change-makers, and everyday champions has been a true honor. Each episode is rooted in one mission:

Helping you lead a better life by navigating workplace stress, avoiding burnout, and stepping into the leader you were born to be.

I also shared a bit of my own growth journey, including how I’ve intentionally reduced screen time to reclaim focus and calm. It's a reminder that real transformation often comes from the small, intentional changes we make daily.

I invite you to ask yourself: What does your ideal life look like? And more importantly, What’s one step you can take today to move closer to it?

        Navigating Change with Purpose

Change is inevitable—but how we respond is where our power lies. In this episode, I challenge listeners to stop waiting for the "right time" and start leading their own life transitions. Grab a journal and write it out: your goals, your challenges, and the specific actions required to create meaningful change in your career or life.

Motivation can be fleeting, but discipline? That’s where the magic happens. Whether you're switching careers, developing a new skill set, or simply craving more balance, clarity begins when you commit to action. Visualize the outcome, get honest about the work required, and give yourself permission to evolve.

      • How Cambridge Grad Pushkar Anand's Journey Led to Manifesting Infinite Riches

Unleashing Purpose and Prosperity with Pushkar Anand

In this compelling episode, I sit down with Pushkar Anand, a transformational leader whose 15-year journey from high-achieving banker to purpose-driven author is nothing short of extraordinary. What began as a quest for personal success evolved into a mission to uplift humanity and empower others to unlock their highest potential.

        From Success-Seeker to Soul-Driven Leader

Pushkar shares his evolution—rooted in voracious learning, with over 500 books read, countless seminars attended, and deep mentorship. His goal shifted from decoding the formula for success to creating a roadmap for others, helping them accelerate their growth without the long detour. His book is the result: a guide for those ready to step into their truth, purpose, and power.

Authenticity as the Gateway to Purpose

We dive into the heart of living authentically—what it really means to embody who you’re meant to be. Pushkar's core belief is that once you're aligned with your true self, abundance naturally follows. I add that living with purpose makes us more resilient, magnetic, and inspiring. The answers we seek aren’t “out there”—they live within us.

        Vibrational Alignment and Financial Freedom

Pushkar breaks down how aligning your self-image with your financial vision can unlock exponential results. It’s not just about goal-setting—it’s about becoming the person who already has what they desire. By embracing “inspired action,” we can shift from hustle to harmony, planting seeds today for the wealth of tomorrow.

The Power of Belief and Wealth Consciousness

We unpack the deep power of self-belief, the rarity of human existence, and how our internal dialogue shapes our external reality. Pushkar introduces his “6 Statutes of Money,” challenging the myth that wealth is dependent on family background or formal education. The real key? Vibrational alignment and mindset mastery.

        Mastering Wealth Through Inner Work

Pushkar explains that wealth isn't just earned—it’s tuned into. Financial success is the byproduct of purpose, belief, and inner alignment. One of his key principles: there’s no universal definition of “wealth”—it’s as unique as each person’s mission. Rewiring the subconscious can shift everything.

        A Book That Shifts Paradigms

We close the conversation by exploring the impact of Pushkar's book—crafted to serve those ready to evolve. Whether you’re starting your journey or looking to deepen your alignment with purpose and prosperity, Pushkar invites listeners to explore more through his site: PushkarAnandsWorld.com, where you’ll find free resources, transformational programs, and tools to master your wealth from the inside out.

Pushkar Anand is the author of the #1 international bestseller Manifest Your Infinite Riches and founder of the Centre for Infinite Riches. Educated at the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics, Pushkar was in the early stages of his traditional corporate career when a profound moment of insight in 2008 led him to evaluate his life expectations and priorities.

This moment of insight set Pushkar on his quest as a seeker: an extraordinary quest of endless research and self-discovery that covered more than 500 books, thirty seminars, workshops and immersive learning experiences, and an intense four-year period of study with his teacher – Blaine Bartlett, whom he fondly addresses as Grandmaster B². Pushkar’s fifteen-year journey resulted in his founding the Centre for Infinite Riches and authoring Manifest Your Infinite Riches.

The Centre is best defined as a movement; a movement, whose purpose is to Uplift Humanity by empowering everyone it touches to become the person they were always meant to be. The Centre’s vision is to uplift four million people by Pushkar’s 50th birthday on October 21, 2026 and 100 million people by Grandmaster B²’s 80th birthday on September 9, 2026.

      • Intentional Matchmaking: Finding Love with Purpose: Ann Parnes and Maria Murray with AfterHello.com

Redefining Connection: The Power of Professional Matchmaking in a Modern World

In this insightful episode, I sit down with Maria and Ann, the dynamic duo behind a leading professional dating service AfterHello.com, to unpack the strategy and psychology behind intentional matchmaking. They walk us through their thoughtful, human-first process—starting with in-depth client interviews, leveraging an extensive and curated database, and culminating in collaborative team sessions designed to make meaningful matches. Ann also shares how they coach clients on optimizing dating app profiles—a service that helps individuals avoid common digital pitfalls and approach dating with clarity and intention.

Dating in a Post-Pandemic World: Trends and Realignment

We explored how the dating landscape has evolved since the pandemic. Ann pointed to a noticeable decline in dating app engagement and a renewed desire for authentic, in-person connections. Maria reinforced that while dating apps aren’t going anywhere, success hinges on using them strategically. I echoed the concern that many individuals jump into dating with little self-awareness or alignment with their core values—often leading to mismatched or short-lived connections. As we discussed, there’s a strong connection between personal relationships and professional achievement, and the data backs that up.

The Inner Work of Lasting Love

Maria, Ann, and I dove deep into the role of self-reflection in the dating journey. We agreed: personal growth is non-negotiable when it comes to building a healthy, lasting relationship. Their matchmaking philosophy centers on clients who are open to change, understand their core values, and are looking for long-term, monogamous connections. We also explored the idea of finding a partner whose imperfections complement—rather than clash with—your own. Growth, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are just as important as attraction when it comes to sustainable love.

        What’s Next for Matchmaking Services?

Looking ahead, we discussed the rising demand for professional matchmaking as loneliness reaches epidemic levels and people seek more intentional connections. Maria and Ann noted that their industry is growing coast-to-coast and internationally, with expected growth of 10% by 2028. I added that while population growth is slowing—which may impact how and when people form families—there’s never been a more important time to build strong, compatible relationships that support lifelong development.

        Coaching Meets Connection

To wrap up, Maria and Ann spoke about their work in both matchmaking and relationship coaching—helping individuals not only find the right partner but become the right partner. If you’re curious about working with experts who combine data, intuition, and a passion for human connection, I encourage you to visit their website and join their growing community.

What happens when a seasoned matchmaker with a legal background teams up with an operations and wellness expert? You get After Hello. Join co-founders Ann Parnes and Maria Murray as they reveal how their national firm is bringing intention and authenticity back to the dating world.

Ann's journey in matchmaking began in 2017, building a successful boutique firm and leveraging her 14 years in the legal field, including seven as an Assistant District Attorney. This experience honed her sharp intuition and deep understanding of human connection. Maria, with nearly two decades of expertise in operations, recruiting, and business growth, combines her sharp business acumen with a passion for holistic well-being. Her background in cultivating wellness and streamlining systems is pivotal to After Hello's distinctive approach.

Together, they've built After Hello to defy the notion that seeking expert guidance in dating is outdated. They champion a refined approach, proving that investing in matchmaking is a smart choice for those who value their time, discretion, and meaningful results. After Hello blends the science of compatibility with a tailored approach, ensuring curated introductions are just the beginning of authentic love stories.

Peter and I explored how his unique experiences shaped a grounded, people-first leadership style. Whether navigating high-stakes negotiations or union agreements, Peter emphasized that values like empathy, accountability, and active listening were key drivers of his success. His book Count on Me captures these moments and lessons, offering a compelling case study in transformational leadership.

Shaw Communications: Embracing Change, Staying Human

We reflected on Shaw’s evolution—from its early days in cable to becoming a major player in internet and wireless services. Peter shared how strategic investments in infrastructure and top-tier talent enabled the company to stay ahead of technological shifts. He also highlighted how Shaw's unwavering commitment to employee well-being and customer experience helped it weather the pandemic's unprecedented challenges. It's a blueprint for change management done right—with heart.

Culture as a Catalyst for Success

Peter opened up about Shaw’s intentional leadership culture, grounded in trust, care, and shared accountability. He described how these values created a sense of belonging and mutual respect across teams. I couldn’t agree more—when employees feel supported, they deliver their best. That culture doesn’t just drive business results; it builds loyalty and resilience.

Why Count on Me Matters Now More Than Ever

Peter spent three years writing Count on Me, a legacy project meant to inspire current and future leaders. The book explores the deeper purpose of leadership—how it’s less about personal accolades and more about empowering others and leaving things better than you found them. If you care about leadership that lifts people up and strengthens communities, this book is a must-read.

          PETER J. BISSONNETTE

          - FORMER PRESIDENT OF SHAW COMMUNICATIONS
          - AUTHOR OF COUNT ON ME

Peter began his thirty-five years with Shaw Communications Inc. in 1989, as

vice president operations. He progressed to the role of president in 2001, a
position he held until his retirement in 2015. He remained on the board until
Shaw's sale to Rogers in 2023.

As a child, Peter was an army brat moving from place to place. He
attended a Catholic boarding school in England and for a time
considered pursuing a life in the clergy. Instead, he joined the Navy and
later the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he discovered his aptitude for
          electronics and radar technology.

Always seeking new opportunities and growth, Peter left a poorly paid role
at Northern Radio in Ottawa with just $50 in his wallet and headed to
Vancouver on a Greyhound bus. There he found work with BC Tel, where
he worked for twelve years, climbing the ranks, gaining a reputation for
operational excellence, and attracting the attention of big telecom
leaders like the McDonalds, Ted Rogers and ultimately, JR Shaw.
Peter is an avid musician, with his own recording studio and an impressive
collection of guitars. He is also a talented photographer; a subject he
          majored in at college.

        • Simplify to Scale – Real Talk on Small Business Growth with Justin Abrams from Aryo Consulting

In this episode, Michael D. Levitt sits down with Justin, founder of Aryo Consulting Group, to unpack small businesses' real-world challenges in today’s fast-paced economy. With a track record of helping over 350 companies—ranging from scrappy startups to established enterprises—Justin brings practical insight into what works (and what doesn’t) when scaling a business.

          🚧 Growth Isn’t Glamorous—It’s Gritty

Small and large businesses alike are battling similar dragons: customer acquisition costs, fragmented attention spans, and complex marketing ecosystems. Michael points out a deeper cultural issue—how society often champions the underdog, only to tear them down once they succeed. It’s a warning for founders: success invites scrutiny, and resilience is required not just to rise—but to stay up.

📣 Cut the Noise—Focus on the Customer

Michael and Justin zero in on a leadership blind spot: ignoring the customer. Many businesses build intricate strategies but forget to ask, “What does the customer actually want?” Michael emphasizes simplifying the customer journey and solving real problems. Justin adds that price and quality remain the cornerstones of customer loyalty—forgetting that is a fast track to losing trust.

          🚀 Product Over Hype

The duo debunks the myth that marketing alone can save a weak product. Justin cites Amazon and Tesla as case studies where product excellence drove customer advocacy organically. Michael calls out "shiny object syndrome"—where founders chase every new marketing trick rather than deeply understanding their audience. In a world of endless tools and AI automation, foundational clarity wins.

🤯 Marketing Paralysis & The Pitfalls of AI Gimmicks

Michael touches on decision paralysis—how clients freeze when bombarded with too many agency pitches or AI-fueled promises. Justin gets candid about the overhype around AI tools like cold outreach automations, warning that many businesses burn cash without meaningful results. His advice: learn from real-world failures, not influencer funnels. When done right, niche cold outreach still works—but it takes precision, not shortcuts.

🔍 The Power of Slowing Down

In a world that moves fast, Michael suggests a counterintuitive growth strategy: slow down. Take the time to truly understand your clients. Drawing from lessons learned from leadership experts like Steven Morris, Michael reminds us that relationships—not transactions—build businesses. Bonus? A nostalgic throwback to the Yellow Pages, which he dubs "the original Google," plus a Red Sox vs. Yankees jab for good measure.

🤖 AI Can’t Replace the Human Story

The conversation wraps with a powerful reminder: AI is a tool, not a compass. Michael and Justin agree that while automation has its place, it can’t replicate the human element. Justin encourages leaders to own their stories—because behind every business metric is a journey worth sharing. They explore how AI may reshape employment, particularly in low-cost markets, and why leaders must strike a balance between efficiency and empathy.

          🔥 Key Takeaways:

          • Simplicity scales. Complexity kills clarity.

          • Don’t outsource your voice—own it.

          • Focus on serving, not selling.

          • Tech is a tool; you are the strategy.

🎧 Listen now to learn how to grow your business without burning out—and why the best strategy is often the simplest one.

            About Justin:

Most founders don’t need another agency. They need a partner who tells them the truth—and helps them fix what’s broken.

That’s what we do at Aryo Consulting Group.

I’m Justin Abrams—strategist, growth architect, and founder of Aryo. We’re not your typical consulting firm. We don’t deliver bloated decks or overpromise shiny metrics. We roll up our sleeves, dive deep into your business, and build systems that drive real, lasting growth.

Think of us as McKinsey meets your favorite operator. The difference? We ship the work. We test, we iterate, and we get results.

We work with small and mid-sized businesses doing $1M–$25M in revenue that are:

            ✅ Stalled in growth

✅ Bleeding cash on ads that don’t convert
✅ Fed up with agencies recycling the same outdated playbook

            Here’s how we help:

            1. Strategy that grounds your growth.

Our diagnostic process goes beyond surface metrics. We uncover the hidden blockers in your funnel, operations, or offer—fast.
Clients say it feels more like therapy than consulting, and they’re right. Sometimes, what you need isn’t more ideas—it’s clarity.

            2. Organic Growth that doesn’t burn your budget.

Before you pour money into paid ads, we focus on organic channels that convert:
Reddit. Facebook Groups. Local SEO. UGC. Newsletters. Podcasts.
No fluff. No spend-until-you-scale tactics. Just systems that deliver qualified leads.

            3. Optimization that future-proofs your operations.

Once growth is working, we modernize your backend.
My partner (MSEE, Carnegie Mellon) brings the tech muscle—automation, integrations, and digital infrastructure to reduce costs and scale with precision.

We’ve supported 300+ businesses—ranging from hungry startups to enterprise giants like Pfizer, Sony, and Merck.
