The US President has called in the National Guard to Los Angeles to quell riots sparked by immigration raids.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has described the federal response as an overreach, saying US President Donald Trump wants "a spectacle", while the president has accused the Governor of failing to maintain order.

Meanwhile, the fallout between Donald Trump and one time ally, tech billionaire Elon Musk has been something to behold.

Over the weekend the two have fired off numerous barbs at each other: Elon Musk has floated the idea of starting his own political party, while Donald Trump has threatened retaliation if Musk were to bankroll his opponents.

And then after four years of detention in Iraq, 50-year-old Australian Robert Pether has been conditionally released from prison.

In 2021, the engineer was sentenced to five years behind bars and fined millions of dollars on fraud charges. The UN deemed his detention illegal.
