United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has held separate emergency meetings with the presidents of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda overnight, as fighting escalates in eastern Congo.

It comes after the so-called M23 rebel group - backed by Rwanda - declared that the city of Goma was now under its control, although the Congolese government disputes this.

Also, since rocketing onto the global stage this week, Chinese technology start-up DeepSeek has sent stock markets into a frenzy, wiping hundreds of billions of dollars off the value of the companies dominating the market.

DeepSeek claims it took just two months to build an AI model that can match or even outperform top US AI rivals, at just a fraction of the cost. But is it too good to be true?

The Australia Banking Association chief has claimed scam losses across the country have dropped by 40 per cent in the last two years, as a Senate inquiry investigates who should be responsible for compensating scam victims.

But is Australia really winning in the fight against fraudsters?
